@desichowrastha.houston in Richmond, TX is a lively spot known for its massive menu that spans street-food favorites, classic curries, and regional South Indian specialties. The atmosphere is casual and efficient, making it easy to sample a wide variety of dishes without a long wait.
On our visit, we ordered the Masala Dosa, Chicken 65, Dum Biryani, Dahi Puri, Samosa Chaat, Chola Puri, and Stuffed Mirchi. Everything arrived quickly, and the flavors were on point across the board. The Dum Biryani stood out with fragrant rice and well-seasoned, tender chicken, while the Chicken 65 was a clear favorite—crispy, spicy, and packed with bold flavor. The chaat items like Dahi Puri and Samosa Chaat were fresh and tangy, balancing crunch with cooling yogurt and chutneys. The Masala Dosa was crisp and satisfying, and the Stuffed Mirchi added a nice kick.
Overall, Chowrastha delivers delicious food, fast service, and an impressively extensive menu, making it a great choice whether you’re craving street snacks or a hearty biryani. Definitely worth a return visit—especially for the biryani and Chicken 65.

Update (2/7/26): Once again, everyone was very patient, thoughtful, & nice. The incredibly thoughtful and kind gentleman at the front double cupped my Irani chat to go to avoid me getting burned. The place was packed on a Saturday night, so I had to place a to-go order… I wouldn’t do that again, because my puri and Kachori were both soggy (my own fault) by the time I got home. The to-go order was beautifully packed! I do, however, prefer how last time they filled the puri fully with the potato stuffing and then pour the sauce over the puri. This time they only filled the puri half way and then with more sauces inside. Note to myself, avoid prime time and no more to-go orders lol.

First time here, and it was my son’s first time trying Indian food. So many delicious options made me want to order everything, and everything I ordered was absolutely delicious! We couldn’t be happier driving 30 mins each way to dine here!
The Irani Chai tasted a bit like hot Thai tea. I loved it, because it was fragrant, perfectly sweet and not too sweet, and creamy with a strong dark tea flavor.
The Dahi Puri was generously, completely filled with the potato stuffing and the flavor was perfectly balanced! I feel like I could eat this everyday! My son doesn’t like tomato and doesn’t eat any raw onion, but he had three of the Dahi puri, and he thought they were fantastic!
The garlic naan was soft and warm, so perfect in this cold weather. The samosa was equally loved.
The butter chicken was the best I have ever had! My son was utterly wowed by the flavor! Soooo good!
The ladies at the front were super sweet, patient, and kind.
The only thing that was missing was just some self-serving tap water. In any case, we cannot wait to be back to have more of the same and try other items on the menu!!
PS. This place is cleaner than most American restaurants! Super impressed!

First time visiting the newly opened Chowrastha Indian Eatery in Richmond, Texas, with my family for a light lunch. We ordered Masala Dosa, which is my most favorite dish from any Indian vegetarian restaurant, and it truly met my expectations. The dosa was fresh, crispy, and flavorful, and the sambar soup was excellent—very comforting and perfectly spiced. We genuinely enjoyed our meal.
Just a small suggestion: the dosa is quite large, and the plate size is a bit small to hold it properly, so some edges end up touching the table. A slightly bigger plate or a different presentation would make the experience even better.
Overall, it was a great experience, and we will definitely visit again. Today we were in a hurry as we’re leaving for a two-week vacation, and it’s so convenient that Chowrastha is only 7–8 minutes from our home. Happy to have such a nice Indian eatery nearby!

The place is lively and was quite busy for a Sunday evening. The service was fast, and the food overall tasted good. It’s a nice spot for a quick in-and-out snack. However, the restaurant has a strong food odor, likely because the dosage counter is open. The food is served in to-go containers, which takes away from the presentation. Overall, the food is decent, but their medium spice level is on the hotter side—if you’re not a fan of spicy food, I’d recommend going with mild. The place is well staffed.

When I visited Houston, I went to Desi Chowrastha with my friends, and we really enjoyed the food.
The mandi was flavorful, the biryani tasted just like home, and the burger was surprisingly very good.
We had a nice time eating together, and the place felt warm and welcoming.
A great spot for tasty food with friends.

This place is new for us, totally worth it! The food was very delicious. Ordered few chaats which could have been better, like papdi chaat had hot Ragda in it, usually I have seen cold papdi chaat without ragda but maybe their making might be different. Mysore masala dosa was very good so surely recommend that, also Hakka noodles with burnt garlic was good! Paneer Gongura and garlic chilli paneer was also very different and very tasty! The only thing at this place is I would hope they have more tables or booths for more than 5 people! If anyone is looking for a street style Indian food I would totally recommend this place. This is a chain and is there at lots of different states in USA

I recently tried both Chicken Juicy and Mutton Juicy Mandi here, and it was absolutely outstanding. The rice was aromatic and perfectly seasoned, with just the right balance of spices — flavorful but not overwhelming. The meat was tender, juicy, and cooked perfectly. The portion was generous, and the overall dining experience felt warm and inviting with good customer service even when the restaurant was packed. I’d highly recommend this place to anyone who appreciates genuine, high-quality Indian cuisine.
Also, loved Benne Dosa, Masala Dosa, CFC chicken, Jalapeno chicken and Irani chai.

Fantastic Desi restaurant in Houston! The food is authentic, flavorful, and always freshly made. I’ve been to this place three to four times in the last one and a half months, and every visit has been consistently amazing. Even though there is a wait time, it’s worth the wait. This spot is well-known for its Irani Chai, Dosas, Idli, Hyderabadi Authentic Biryanis, and their delicious Pulaos and Mandis — every dish is full of rich flavor and cooked to perfection. The staff are friendly, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The wait time is usually around 20–30 minutes, but it’s absolutely worth it for the quality and taste. The restaurant gets very busy on weekends, and it can be hard to get a table — hopefully they expand soon! Highly recommend this place to anyone craving genuine Desi food and hospitality!

We had a great experience at Chowrasta in Richmond! The staff were welcoming and attentive, and the food truly hit the mark. We tried the onion dosa, Ulavacharu paneer biryani, Frankie, and idly — every single dish was flavorful and had that authentic homemade taste we’ve been missing. Definitely a new favorite spot for us — can’t wait to go back and try more!

Both ambience and crowd is like that of a railway station of Bharat and chaotic. Avoid dine in. Lots of menu options. ‘Chicken juicy Mandi’ is more than sufficient for 2 people. While the rice and popcorn chicken was quite good, the main 2 chicken legs were quite bland. Finally, they took 50 minutes to get us our food since they gave our order to a takeout guy by mistake. Faluda malai and mango lassi was good. All in all, order takeout, if you want to try. Reasonably priced.
