Today, I find myself in Hoover, Alabama, stopping by a restaurant known as Chow Town—an establishment that, by name alone, promises abundance, comfort, and perhaps a certain rustic charm. With that in mind, let us proceed.
Upon receiving the food, the presentation was adequate, though not without its imperfections. The dishes arrived somewhat sloppy in arrangement, suggesting a kitchen more focused on generosity than precision. That said, the food itself was decent—satisfying, filling, and agreeable to the palate. While it did not reach a level of refinement one might associate with meticulous craftsmanship, it nonetheless delivered on flavor in a way that was honest and serviceable.
The service, however, was a curious experience. There was a sense of confusion in the process—uncertainty in direction, moments where one was unsure of the next step. I have included a photo of one of the servicewomen. Yet, despite this, the staff carried themselves with notable kindness. Their demeanor was warm, patient, and well-intentioned, which helped offset the lack of clarity. One could tell that while the system may not be flawless, the people operating within it were sincere.
As for the atmosphere, it was undeniably kind, but also somewhat off—a subtle imbalance difficult to articulate. The environment felt welcoming, yet slightly disjointed, as though multiple ideas of what the space should be were competing with one another. Not unpleasant, but faintly peculiar.
In conclusion, Chow Town is a place that offers decent food, kind service, and a well-meaning atmosphere, albeit one that could benefit from greater cohesion and polish. It is not without flaws, but it is also not without charm.
And for that reason, I would describe this visit as acceptable to moderately enjoyable.
This has been a review of Chow Town in Hoover, Alabama.
And that’s all for now. Take care.

Seriously amazing food! Prices are great for an all you can eat buffet and the staff is super helpful and friendly. The sushi is fresh and My favorite is the hibachi grill. You choose your choice of meats, seafood or vegetables w/ rice or noodles and give it to the chef there. They will prepare it right in front of you. This is my go to place now.
Amazing choices, great ambient. Clean and friendly service again and again! We went there yesterday and surprisingly to see these type of lunch items ~ Pork chops, (Prawn size) Salt pepper shrimps, huge fresh strawberries on the buffet bars. What a great prices for lunch! It’s only $11.49 per person. We will be back soon. Thanks Chow Town!

Very weird and rude during my time I was eating and the waiter wouldn’t get out of my face trying to rush and pressure me to pay early at the table in front of her like I was going to run off and not pay while I was on the phone and having a conversation which she seen and ALSO still eating. When I didn’t even ask for my ticket and she ended up rudely interrupting and speaking over me being on the phone saying it. And I asked could I just pay up front when I’m done because I’m still eating and I’m trying to talk on the phone. And she ended up lying and saying no I couldn’t pay up front when I’m done. Just for another employee to tell me that that wasn’t true when I was leaving. And when I first got there I noticed everyone who were sat to the back were black people. And all the black people in there were in the back. And I didn’t trip and gave things the benefit of the doubt and was just like “ok” and didn’t say anything and things progressively got weirder and weirder. I wasn’t even there a hour and it wasn’t my first time there so I know how stuff usually goes. I am clearly a black male so it speaks itself lol. I wasn’t even there for even close to an hour. She was trying to treat me like I was going to run off and not pay when I wasn’t even messing with anyone. And the food is very low quality to be acting that way I was just trying to give things a chance cause I haven’t been in so long. And used to love it years ago when I was younger.

I enjoyed peeling shrimp and crawfish. The mussels were small so get a few while you can. I didn’t like the stuffed crab. The pizza was oddly sweet. The top steam shrimp was good as well as the fried. The coconut shrimp was good. Things looked appetizing and service was confusing for me but staff was nice. Metal forks would be nice in a restaurant setting. I probably won’t revisit.

Awesome food for dinner. Steak, ribs with barbeque sauce that fall off the bone, fried shrimp,, catfish, crawfish. Salad bar, sushi bar with hibachi, and dessert bar with bananna and chocolate pudding, coffee cakes. An ice cream bar with three flavors. Everything you want in one place with plenty of seating in four different seating areas. Saturday and Sunday is all day dinner buffet.

This was the nastiest Buffett I have ever paid for! The food was old and most everything I put on my plate was hard; so much so it could not be bitten into…I took the sugar doughnut and roll and it banged as i tapped the table with it. We were there about 50 minutes and only saw 3 dishes properly re-filled.Everything else was mostly empty..The meat on the hibachi grill was clearly not chilled. The “slime” was all over the side and on the counters. I watched the mac and cheese be freshened with a new pan he then proceeded to grab a dirty serving spoon from a dirty dish cart. He pushed it down in the mac and cheese and it was literally so soupy that it sunk to the bottom. The rice was dried out, i could go on and on but ill let the pictures do the rest of the talking. The 2 of us had the Buffett and tea and it was $35 before tips. Beware the health department truly needs to visit this restaurant before someone gets really sick…
