The menu offers a diverse range of unique options for drinks, appetizers, and mains. The Meet Cuke & Pineapple Express cocktails were fresh and flavorful – a tad pricey, but the quality is worth paying for. We split the Bao Bun appetizer – stuffed with kimchi aioli and char siu pork. I would come back just to order these fluffy buns again. Our entrees, the Pok Pok Noodles, & See U Choppy were delicious, and the portions were sized just right for lunch. It’s rare to find dry-style ramen in this area, but I am happy to have found Choppystix. I can’t wait to return and try the other dishes on the menu.
The Pad Thai was excellent and definitely the standout of the meal. The Chicky Boom Boom was good as well. The only issue was the Khao Soi, which came without the crispy noodles. If you’re familiar with Khao Soi, you know the crispy noodles are what really separate it from other curry noodle dishes and give it its signature texture.
I called to let them know and was initially offered free crispy noodles next time. I asked if it would be possible to receive a full Khao Soi instead, but after checking with the owners, I was told they could offer “double crispy noodles next time.”
I do appreciate the attempt to make things right and the customer service, although the crispy noodles really belong in the dish itself rather than as a side snack… ♀️
The meh: the service
The service overall leaves more to be desired but the food is good enough that I’d come back.
See below for more detail.
We ordered the Drunken Hangover with tofu and the Soul Fire Up. Both dishes were flavorful and delicious. I would recommend a different protein for the Hangover because the tofu pieces were quite large and therefore softer and more moist than would be ideal. Plus, the interior of the tofu lacked flavor which could have been achieved with smaller, better seared pieces. The Fire Up had great flavor but would have been better with a bit more kimchi for both texture and depth of flavor.
Now, the service…While there were a few tables finishing up, there was plenty of seating for us. The hostess was on the phone when we entered and, as we waited, a waitress came over and asked if we were dining in. She told us we could seat ourselves. Less than a moment later, before we were seated, the hostess was off the phone, asked if we would like a table for two and took us to a table. There was a palpable disconnect between the staff.
The waitress who waited on us – the same as above – was nice enough but seemed either unsure of herself or tired or? She asked us the same types of questions repeatedly (e.g., Do you want anything other than water to drink?). It didn’t feel pushy, just forgetful. Similar interactions continued throughout the meal.
We have been 4-5 times since they opened and the food has been absolutely stellar. Service was a bit slow at first, but has become much better in our last few visits. I rave about them the next day every time and my coworkers can attest to that. I can’t recommend them enough.
I ordered the Hanoi Bone-In Pho, and it was fantastic! The portion size and the quality of ingredients in the bowl made it worth every penny. The broth had just the right balance of flavor rich, comforting, and deeply satisfying.
Next, I tried the Ginger Rice Chicken (Kao Man Gai). The dipping sauce was spot-on, and the rice was cooked perfectly, not too dry, not too mushy. The chicken was tender and flavorful. It’s clear they take pride in making everything from scratch.
I also ordered the Chicken wings with Mala another great choice! It tasted homemade, and you can tell because e chicken wasn’t overly salty like many places that use pre-made wings from wholesale suppliers.
The Chicken Satay with peanut sauce was delicious too. The sauce paired so well with the tender chicken — it reminded me of the street food I had back home in Thailand.
The atmosphere was cozy, and the staff were super friendly, constantly checking in to make sure we had everything we needed. I highly recommend Choppy Stix for anyone craving authentic, street food-style Thai and Asian dishes!
