The place has outdoor seating, they take reservations, parking can be a challenge because it is a little small parking lot. When you walk in you aren’t really greeted but make sure you walk up to the front where the register is and then you will be seated. There’s a bar inside so you can sit by the bar. The place feels very elevated and elegant. You can feel the culture experience just by being inside. They look like they won a Michelin award in 2025 rightfully so because the food was mind blowing! I usually don’t even like African food but this place made me change my mind. I tried the black star which is like a savory creamy vanilla bean soup. It came with some purple rice and shrimp in it and plantains. The flavor was unique as they used different spices that I’m use to and I can’t exactly explain it, but it was good. I also got the coconut fried chicken and they were a nice little appetizer. They were crispy and bite sized and came with some tartar sauce like dipping sauce. The service was excellent they came to check on me multiple times.

This dinner was my favorite during my trip to Houston visiting friends. Food was 100/100, service was very nice, and vibes were good. Didn’t feel like a Monday night at all!! There was a DJ playing good beats and tons of other tables were taking shots and having fun. It was slightly high volume (with the music + all the conversations), so just be aware of that; I wouldn’t come here if you’re planning to whisper a ton of secrets across the table.
For the food: as a party of 4 we split 2 bowls and 2 small plates, which was a perfect amount for us. If we wanted to be super full, we could have ordered another bowl.
I can’t even describe how good the food was; you gotta taste it for yourself. The jollof jambalaya and the yassa curry rice was heavenly and so rich. It was just a really amazing culinary experience especially because I don’t often get to enjoy those flavors. Please try for yourself. Next time I visit Houston I’m coming straight back here!!!!

We choose this place for our belated Valentine’s. We had a good start as the Chef walked us to our table! Food was fantastic! Large portions of goodness. Elevated flavors. We had the Ikoyi Shrimps ( as on sumptuous flavors); scotch eggs with extra umami ( raised the bar) go for the Golden no doubt as it is an array of flavors like in a rainbow! Buka ( beef stew) was a burst of homestyle with a je ne sais quoi! Will become a regular! Atmosphere is very lively!! Attention was superb and fast even that they were extremely busy!

Amazing first-time experience with incredible food! Our waiter, EJ, was fantastic and even brought us samples of different rices and curries so we could mix and match. Highly recommend asking for this if your server doesn’t offer it.
We made a reservation the night before for patio seating and were so glad we did. Inside felt a bit crowded and loud, while the patio was more relaxed and felt family-friendly if you’re bringing kids.
We ordered the Golden with the Jollof, and the deviled eggs were phenomenal, nothing like traditional deviled eggs. The banana bread was also outstanding, easily some of the best I’ve ever had.
The steak, shrimp, and chicken were prepared perfectly. You get about 6oz of chicken. Nothing was dry or overcooked.
So delicious. Thank you to EJ and the entire ChòpnBlok team. We can’t wait to come back!
Also, we decided to buy a gift card for winners at our Christmas party this year 🙂

From the moment we arrived, the dining experience was nothing short of extraordinary. Every detail—from the ambiance to the timing of each course—was thoughtfully curated and executed with grace. What truly elevated the evening, however, was the impeccable service provided by our server, Ejay.
Ejay’s attentiveness, warmth, and deep knowledge of the menu transformed an already wonderful meal into an unforgettable experience. Service was seamless without ever feeling intrusive, and every interaction reflected genuine care and professionalism. It is rare to encounter service that feels so effortless yet so intentional.
This was not just a meal, but a memorable experience, made exceptional by truly out-of-this-world service. Ejay set the gold standard for hospitality. The food & drinks were AMAZING!!! 10/10 recommended.

We had a wonderful experience at Chop N Block, and a big part of that was our server, Kaylin. From the moment we sat down, she was welcoming, attentive, and genuinely kind. She took the time to explain the menu, made great recommendations, and checked on us just the right amount. Her energy was positive and professional, and she truly made us feel taken care of. The food was delicious, but Kaylin’s service is what made the experience memorable. We’ll definitely be back again!

Love, love, love the food scene in Houston and love this gem. You cannot find delish West African cuisine in many cities. This restaurant elevates the cuisine, with complex sauces and flavors, and has a riveting atmosphere to match! The service is also impeccable. I ordered takeaway dishes for my family, for the flight back to Miami! I’ll be back soon!

What a truly wonderful dining experience! I ordered exclusively from the happy hour menu, and every single item was absolutely excellent—flavorful, beautifully prepared, and worth every bite. The ambiance is unbelievable: warm, inviting, and perfectly set for a memorable meal.
A special shoutout to my server, EJ, who was fantastic—attentive, friendly, and made the entire experience even better.
I will definitely be coming back again and again and again. The only limitation is the one-hour dining window, but I completely understand why—it’s clear this restaurant is in high demand every hour, and that’s because the food is truly exceptional. An all-around fantastic experience!

This was the first time I’ve had western African cuisine, but it was one of the best things I’ve eaten! Tiffany was our server and was very helpful with recommendations. The Suya skewers are a must! It was so bold and flavorful! I also ordered the Aunty Mawa’s Maafe with chicken. This dish was rich and smoky – the Waakye fried rice in the dish was so good that I ordered seconds.
I initially went here because of a credit card perk, but I would definitely come back here without it.
