We kind of randomly were in this area and this restaurant came up on Google. It gives off a genuine local vibe. (I love supporting places that aren’t chains!) The food was ready in a bout 15 minutes. Since they only do take out we went to Haskell Park to eat (great park by the way!)
Food is good (it’s heavy on the sauce, FYI) but it’s SUPER hot. Be careful not to burn your mouth!
We got the beef with noodles (kind of a soup, tasty), the beef broccoli (fairly saucy, comes with fried rice), and the cashew chicken (extremely saucy, comes with fried rice.) The portions are hearty (we ordered larges, which is two meals worth.) Overall, a fun experience.

Good unique flavors and cool place!
Classic look inside, ooooold school, I felt like I jumped back into 1981.
EGG ROLL is the best around, no contest.
It takes about 15 minutes for food.
Big portions and the chicken fried rice was great!
The sweet and sour chicken was OK, it was more bread&sauce than chicken BUT you get a LOT of it and the sauce is tasty. Crab Rangoon was decent.
I would go back just for those egg rolls.
Got 3/4 meals worth of food for $16.

I usually don’t bust out a review for any place I’ve only been to one time. But I’ve only been here one time. And I will be going back many more times. The Saint Paul sandwich was perfect. The egg rolls are some of the best I’ve had. If you’re worried about the old run down building not being up to your standards then get over yourself. There is great food here. And the person who took my order made it a great experience. I can’t wait to try some other food from Chong’s. Call ahead if you are picking up. There is no dining room here

They have the best St. Paul sandwiches around. As well as the fried rice dishes. I’ve been coming here for a while now.

Been coming here for over 20 years. Best fried rice hands down. Always fresh you can tell what the meat is. Jay has always been nice and he always remembers me. I drive over 45 min to get this rice and always bring people with me so they can try. They all agree best rice between Illinois and Missouri

This is in my opinion the best Chinese fast food restaurant in Alton, not only does the food come in large portions but the prices are awesome for what you get. The shrimp fried rice comes with a lot of shrimp unlike other places were you can count on one hand how many shrimp are in it. Jay the owner is one of the nicest and coolest owners I know, it’s been almost five years since I’ve been there but as soon as he see’s me he might not remember my name but he’ll remember my order.

Just moved to Alton, and everyone I asked said Chong’s is the best. St. Paul is amazing and huge, egg rolls are delicious.
F.Y.I. Cash only.

Best for those who like meat, giant St Paul sandwiches, and greasy brown paper bags. No orange or yellow rice. Only the real. Come here and get the most meat in your fried rice, pork or duck in noodles and all that other good stuff.
