I don’t know where to start. Hubby and I walked out of 2 fine dining restaurants along Mission Blvd for various reasons, and after dining at Chomp, could not have been happier and fuller!

Hubby is a burger connoisseur – and boy Chomp did not disappoint. His burger was cooked to perfection according to his preferences.

Meanwhile, I was surprised to see in a burger joint’s menu crab cakes! Crab cakes! I love crab cakes and that was what I intended to order at the other restaurant we walked out on.

The server, Adam, was very patient with me and my ‘questioning’ of their crab cakes offering. I was hesitant in ordering crab cakes at a burger joint. Adam assured me that while he has not personally tried them (he is not a a crab person, he said) their diners love them and are even repeat customers. With that, I ordered crab cakes and I was pleasantly surprised at how good they were. The crab cakes are at par, if not, better than the crab cakes offered at specialty seafood restaurants in the East Coast, think Maryland crab cakes in Maryland. The salad with its vinaigrette dressing was good too!

I am stuffed and so happy we ended up at Chomp.

So great to see a restaurant that actually has a section of their menu that has offerings for vegetarians. The food was just ok but the waitress was outstanding. No parking on site so street parking is necessary. There is a large tyrannosaurus with a Santa hat on inside the restaurant.

Patty melt was flavorless. Trip tip sandwich is shaved beef (also flavorless). Sweet potato fries and onion rings were ok. Service was good, but food is not worth making the trip here.

Chomps in Solvang – A Diner Gem with Fantastic Food!
Chomps is the kind of place that makes you glad you stopped in. My better half went with a cheeseburger and fries while I dove into a Reuben sandwich with onion rings—and wow, everything was spot on! The burger patty was fresh and juicy, the fries perfectly crispy with just the right seasoning, and the onion rings had a crunchy cornmeal batter that made them absolutely addictive.

The Reuben? Easily one of the best I’ve ever had—loaded with flavor and cooked just right. I also love that there was no upcharge to swap onion rings for fries (a rare treat these days).

Our server, Cash, was outstanding—friendly, engaging, and super attentive without ever being overbearing. The owner and staff made us feel right at home, which only added to the charm. This was my second visit, and both times have been exceptional.

If you’re in Solvang and craving classic diner food done right, Chomps is a must. Great people, great food, and a welcoming vibe—you can’t go wrong here!

A Must-Stop in Solvang! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
If you are looking for a break from the usual Danish pastries in Solvang, you have to hit up Chomp. It’s a classic, high-energy diner with a modern twist, and the food definitely lives up to the hype.
The Highlight: The Tri-Tip Sandwich
I ordered the Tri-Tip Sandwich and it was easily the star of the meal. The meat was perfectly slow-roasted, tender, and served on a fresh French roll. I love that they serve the salsa on the side so you can control the kick—it was flavorful, juicy, and exactly what I was craving.
Why else you should go:
• The Vibe: It’s a fun, retro-meets-modern soda fountain environment. Very family-friendly and lively.
• The Service: Despite being a popular spot, the service was efficient and friendly.
• Outdoor Seating: They have a great patio that’s perfect for people-watching along Mission Drive while you eat.
Whether you’re a local or just passing through, Chomp is a great casual spot with high-quality comfort food. I’ll definitely be back for a milkshake next time!

Gluten Free*

I had one of the best burgers, Miss Candi Burger, I’ve been able to have in a long time. I normally opt out for gluten free buns because they are stiff or crumble while eating, but theirs was great. It was soft and didn’t fall apart. The service was great a personable. Shout out to Adam, thanks for the great visit.

I recently visited Chomp in Solvang, and while the location is undeniably good, my overall experience was quite average. The restaurant is situated in a charming area, which adds to its appeal, but unfortunately, that’s where the excitement ends.

Upon arriving, I was greeted by the front desk staff, who were perfectly fine but didn’t go above and beyond to make the experience memorable. The cleanliness of the tables and amenities was commendable, which is always a plus in any dining establishment. However, the food left much to be desired.

I decided to try a few different items from the menu. I ordered the chicken tenders, tomato soup, and ravioli pasta. The chicken tenders and fries were decent; they had a nice crunch and were cooked well. However, the tomato soup was rather unremarkable. It was served with two packs of biscuits (four in total), which were of very low quality and didn’t complement the soup at all. In fact, I think it would have been better if they hadn’t included them at all.

As for the ravioli pasta, it was just okay—nothing special or exciting about it. I also ventured to try their kombucha drink, which I found quite unappealing and wouldn’t consider ordering again in the future.

Overall, while Chomp benefits from its location in Solvang—a place known for its good vibes—the food does not live up to expectations. There’s nothing particularly thrilling about the menu or the dining experience that would entice me to return. It’s a place where you can grab a meal if you’re nearby, but I wouldn’t recommend going out of your way for it.

Best onion rings! We had the crab cake salad. The blue cheeseburger and the veggie burger. Owner came out and comp me a side of onion rings while I was waiting. Highly recommend this place if you are in Solvang.
