Best sundubu in the area! The house-made tofu is the star here—silky, fresh, and flavorful. The perilla seed and mushroom soup is a standout. While the LA Galbi was tasty, it was a little tough, and the pancake felt a bit overpriced for the size. However, the “grandma-style” hospitality and the convenience of paying with InKind make this a top-tier local spot. Stick to the tofu dishes and you can’t go wrong!

Stopped in for lunch at 1 PM on MLK Jr. Day. There’s a parking lot, and this lot is always a mess but luckily we were able to find a spot. The restaurant is pretty small, so it’s not great for large groups. We only had 5 but had to wait for one of the larger tables, which they only have two of. Here is what we ordered:

-Shrimp & Leek Pancake – I’m normally not a fan of these pancakes because they tend to be soggy and oily. But this one was actually pretty good. I think it’s because they use a very light, and very little batter – so it’s mostly just shrimps and leeks. They also have a good amount of shrimp
-Japchae – this one was meh. It wasn’t smooth and glossy like I like my japchae to be. But that might be a good thing? Maybe it means they use less oil
-CDH Tofu Bossam (steamed pork belly, tofu, kimchi wrap) – this seems to be the dish everyone was getting when I saw the reviews. Some pictures showed their homemade tri-colors tofu, which is why we didn’t end up ordering a separate dish of that. I was disappointed when it came out with regular tofu, which was still good but not what I was expecting. The pork belly was nice and tender, and sliced thin. I wasn’t a fan of the kimchi wrap because there was some kind of herb in it that I didn’t like. Perilla leaf maybe?
-LA Kalbi – meat was tender and the marinade was good
-CDH Grilled Croaker (served with rice and soup) – perfectly fried and lots of meat. The tofu soup it came with was incredibly salty though

Their banchan included fried tofu, kimchi, cucumber kimchi, shrimp sauce, and marinated squash. My favorite was the cucumber. It was bright and crispy. I would have been happy just eating this and some rice.

I will say that the only weird thing is that they’re on the inKind app, and when we went to their website, we saw there was a promo going on for $25 off $75. But as soon as they saw we had the coupon, they asked if we could pay with a different method because suddenly, “their system was down”. The promo was part of the reason why we chose this spot, so we felt kind of like it was a bait and switch.

We probably liked half of the items, and that experience left me a little salty. And with so many Korean restaurants in North Jersey, I think we’ll try those spots before returning here.

They made tofu in house so the tofu stew was spot on with great flavor and the tofu was silken soft. The dumplings were just ok but the scallions pancake was tasty.

Food is so comforting and the staff is wonderfully kind. Bossom and House made Tofu combo with kimchi salad is my favorite. Their banchan is always rotating and delicous!

Decent Korean food, portions on the little smaller side but ok for the price. Service was good.

Happy to be able to walk in and get seating on a Saturday night. Food was overall good. The place makes their own tofu and I loved the one that comes with their basic appetizers.

The service was a bit lacking. We had a bit of back and forth with the staff on small things that I feel like detracted from our experience.

This is an authentic Korean restaurant and the food served feels like it was cooked by your mother. I started with the leek pancake which is so fresh and full of shrimp. The tofu is all made in the house and is absolutely delicious. My friends raved about the spicy tofu soup and the delicious ribs. This place is a hidden gem not to be missed.

Update: I’m taking off one star. The latest time we went, they didn’t give us small dishes before the main dishes were served. They explained because customers get full on small dishes too soon. Well that’s our business. We can always take our food home. And there were very few small appetizers compared to other places.

Update: nice takeout packaging with assortment of appetizers

Food tasted really good. Only the service was lackluster. The young lady at the counter just wasn’t nice. She gave me a weird look when I ordered two combos for 3 of us (one was my 90-year-old grandma). She blocked the narrow passageway to the bathroom without moving so I had to squeeze through. And there was no thank you as she scooped up the tips. A bit strange for a family restaurant.

Also, definitely order the combo of soup and meat. The galbi by itself was a lot pricier with only a few pieces more. (I had the comparison because we also ordered just the meat to go afterwards.)

I’m coming here for its handmade tofu but honestly that was the most disappointing dish we ordered. The tofu was very dense and firm, can’t really tell the difference between the three flavors. The other dishes are surprisingly good, especially love the bossam!

Really really good sundubu – they even have a white broth mushroom version that I found really comforting and perfect for a cold winter day.

The set menus are a great deal – you get the full size tofu soup plus a sizzling bibimbap (the rice at the bottom gets wonderfully crunchy if you wait a bit before stirring). The vegetable one I got wasn’t super flavorful, but I’m sure the meat ones are.

There’s sides (kimchi, fish tofu, marinated tofu, and thin pickles) and barley tea. Extra rice is an extra $2.

I also liked the shrimp pancakes – very tender and tasty shrimp. They unfortunately didn’t have the tri-colored tofu when I went – I’d love to try that too.
