Great casual Mexican spot downtown Knoxville. They have a large bar area with plenty of space for mingling and watching the game. We had the guacamole, quesadillas and tacos. They were all decent! They have a large selection of beverages. The service is warm and friendly. Would recommend if you are looking for a solid, casual spot out.

Great place for some awesome Mexican food in downtown Knoxville…
My first time here but loved all of their food varieties,
Must try is their guacamole and salsa-chips, but ensure that you are leaving space for the mains… tried their bowl and tacos (The tacos are small so if going just for those then you might need to try more numbers) as well and everything was very nicely prepared, perfectly cooked and the servers were also super friendly.. and the margaritas added to the whole experience….
Must visit place if you like Mexican food or want to experience it the first time!!
How to get there: Park your car in the market square garage and then 10 min walk to this place, make sure you have made the reservation.

Everything here is delicious! We love the duck tacos! Perfect blend of savory and sweet.
It can get kind of loud when it’s busy and you’re trying to have an intimate conversation but that’s really the only complaint.

Chivo has been a family favorite for us for the last few years. I usually get the “cluster duck” tacos. I usually am not a duck guy but the duck sprinkled with the cheese is unbelievable. We also get the brisket bowl OR the brisket burrito. You have to trust me on this one. If we are on Gay St for anything from a movie to just passing through this place is on our list of things to do for sure.

Chivo Taqueria offers a variety of flavorful tacos with unique proteins and sauces. I started with the queso and chips—rich, well-seasoned, and absolutely hit the spot. The wings were smoky, spicy, and tasty, though not as impressive as expected, still very good overall. As for the tacos, they were decent, but I’ll need to give them another shot to see if they live up to the hype. All in all, Chivo Taqueria is a solid spot. While some dishes stood out, like the queso and chips, others, like the wings and tacos, left room for slight improvement. I’ll likely return to see if the tacos can win me over next time.

Chivo Taqueria is exactly what an urban tacqueria should be: tasty food, quaffable beer, attentive service. We ducked in early afternoon on a Friday for late lunch. Chivo Taqueria did not disappoint. Delicious, cold beer all around (Goat N’ Hoes . . . how can you NOT order it?) and we were quickly served our appetizer of chips and guac (Chips not to be missed–never had chips before that really didn’t need salsa, queso, or guac, but these didn’t. However, our fresh guac did enhance them.) We ordered a variety of their tacos (Limp Briskit, Codfather, Clusterduck) as well as the deliciously seasoned Ground Beef Burrito, accompanied by sides of street corn, black beans, and rice. All were tasty and worth ordering again, but the Limp Briskit taco and black beans were standouts. We enjoyed people watching as well as the floor-to-ceiling bar. This place is a gem.
