I went back and the server explained my order and the receipt to me. I didn’t fully understand it at first, but it turns out I was not charged for sour cream, as I had originally thought. I had misunderstood what the “sides” listed on the receipt were for. She explained that the sides were actually for the tortillas.
I was given the one tortilla that was missing, and then I left. Apparently, I had been charged for two tortillas, and the “sides” were used to charge for the additional ones. At the time of ordering, the server had mentioned that since I already had sour cream on the bowl, I would be charged extra for more, so when I later saw “tortillas” and “sides” on the receipt, I assumed the extra charge was for sour cream.

I came to prepare the rest of the Chipotle order for my family and noticed that I was only given 5 tortillas instead of the 6 I paid for. I wasn’t originally planning to follow up, but since I now have to go there anyway due to the missing tortilla, I’ll also take the opportunity to ask why I was charged for sour cream.
I wasn’t going to make a big deal out of it, but having to return for something I already paid for makes it reasonable to address both issues at once, in shā Allāh.
Will post the outcome in shā Allāh.

I’ve been eating at Chipotle for as long as I can remember and have always appreciated the quality and service—for the most part.
The exception has been the Chipotle in Hopkins, which, in my experience, has offered some of the worst service I’ve encountered. Unfortunately, it now seems like the Chipotle in Cottage Grove is heading in the same direction—charging without explanation.
I placed an order for three bowls, along with 3 sides of sour cream, 2 hot sauces, 2 guacamoles, and 6 tortillas. When I reviewed my receipt, I noticed a $1.60 charge for sides.
In all my years ordering at Chipotle, I’ve never been charged for sour cream as a side, and no one mentioned that there would be a fee. I accounted for the guac and tortillas, so I can only assume the charge was for the sour cream.
This isn’t about the money—ma shā Allāh Tabārak Allāh, $1.60 won’t break my account—but it’s about the principle. Customers at the very least deserve clear communication and transparency.
To add, the food was overly salty—I’m not sure if it was the fajitas or the combination of everything mixed together, but it was noticeably off. A bit disappointing overall.
Just sharing this for awareness, because being charged without warning or served food that isn’t up to par leaves a bad taste—no matter how good it used to be.
The burrito ended up being good, but I had to try not to think about how dirty the whole store was including where my food was being made. I took pictures of the store as I was leaving to show I’m not making this up. The garbages were overflowing, the drink area was filthy, there was stuff all over the floor, the tables were filthy.
I gave Chipotle another try, but I won’t be going back for a long time.
This kind of behavior is unprofessional and reflects poorly on the store. Chipotle should ensure that all staff receive proper training in customer service, professionalism, and diversity awareness. My experience felt disrespectful, and I hope steps are taken to improve staff training moving forward.
The bowls did NOT have ANY of the fajita veggies, if the store ran out, you could’ve waited until the new batch of fajita veggies was cooked then made the order, OR have contacted me to let me know, not make the whole entire order WITHOUT the items requested.
The kids meal I bought only gave me the option to choose 2 sides, so guess what?! It was missing a whole side since they didn’t care to give me the fajita veggies!
Then the extra meat, there was hardly any meat in the bowls, it was mostly filled with rice. So I paid extra for something I didn’t even get.
HORRIBLE SERVICE! Chipotle’s service and quality was gone down hill!
