My fishing bud who doesn’t catch many fish said let’s go get some fish n chips at this location. We picked the the haddock fish n chips due to the bigger size with soft flacky white meat. The portions were good with plenty enough to take some home to reheat in the oven. First time coming here but we will be back again

Our early dinner tonight was lovely. The family that owns the establishment definitely knows what they’re doing! Amazing food, service is lovely & every moment there felt like home. Robyn our waitress was caring & courteous.
The fish & chips also have been just as tasty since the first week they were open so good on them for keeping up with the quality & vibes of this cute lil spot.
Quality of the food is probably the best you can get in any ‘fried food’ spot. The fish is fresh & crispy. Seafood chowder tastes like momma made it, & the sandwiches/tacos are perfectly constructed & so so so tasty.
Only complaint was we didn’t have enough room for dessert considering the sizes of the portions
Thanks chip & malt will soon be back!

Such a great gem for fish and chips that I wish more people knew about them.
Love their fish. The batter is so nicely done. Every single bite was crisp. You could hear each crunchy bite. The fish I ordered was different. I got an orange roughy fish and chips. The roughy was nice and flaky and actually had some nice flavour to it.
The place just screams beachside vibes. And the service was top notch as well. Super nice while being efficient.
Parking seems like it would be tough since it’s on Main Street in Newmarket but if you go east of Main Street, there’s a ton of parking available there that stretches quite a long bit. It can get busy during the weekends and nice days so at those times you just have to be patient.

Updated: Very disappointing overall. The fish portion was very small for the price. One of the plates they gave us had a dried red stain that looked like old ketchup, and the tomatoes in the salad still had the grocery price sticker on them.
Our table had an empty ketchup bottle and the malt vinegar was almost empty. The strong smell inside the restaurant was never addressed and no one apologized for it.
Considering the hype around this place, it was definitely not worth it.

Haven’t tried the food yet, but the entire restaurant smells bad, almost like the ventilation system is circulating washroom air through the dining area.

But Chip&Malt came highly recommended, so we gave it a try… and now we’re *hooked*!
The batter is outstanding—light, crispy, and perfectly done every time. We’ve tried the haddock, halibut, and orange roughy so far, and each one has been delicious. Even better, the homemade ice cream is absolutely fantastic.
The owners and staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, which makes the experience even more enjoyable.
Whether you’re a fish lover or not, Chip & Malt is definitely worth a visit! (We are driving up from Etobicoke)

Fish is excellent. Portion bigger than what’s showing on plate chips enough for two- Bought the senior special for lunch ( would have wanted more cod might buy regular dinner next time but filling with chips – great cod, fish ,coleslaw just excellent and chips. Crust thin crispy, fish white juicy yummy – chips good home made but would like them cut a little thinner.

Lovely restaurant here on Main St. The food is absolutely delicious, which is evident from the pictures below and the service is fantastic. The lady who served us was just the sweetest. Would definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys fish and chips, and if you don’t, definitely a great place to try.

Gotta say this was the best fried fish experience I’ve had (I’m 55 years old). Batter is super light and doesn’t absorb the oil like most others do. Halibut was absolutely amazing.

We went on a Good Friday so we knew it would be chaos. But I was impressed by how well prepared this restaurant was! It was my first time here and I will definitely be back because the food, service and attention to detail when insanely busy was incredible! We had the halibut and fries with some mushy peas and everything was perfect. Tartar sauce is to die for. Thanks for a great meal we will see you again soon!
