Recently took my wife for a lil date night. We have had Chin’s before but it was delivery. My family loves eating food from here because the portions are large and each plate has its own taste, not like panda express or the other chinese places where every plate tastes like everything else.

We walked in on a friday night and it wasn’t too busy. The ambiance is very nice for this place being inside a strip mall. What may surpise you is the size of their dining area. it’s not very big but they have these giant mirrors that completely fooled my wife and I thinking the room was double its actual size.

We were sat down, handed menus and were immediately brought waters. After a few minutes of choosing our entrees from their vast menu we were brought our drinks. My wife and I talked about the decoration inside the restaurant admiring the small details that give this place character when in the middle of our conversation, our waiter brought over our soup, bowls and spoons.

Now here is where I was like wow this is new…..she served us our soup. She took the time to ensure both our bowls were portioned correctly with 2 wontons, veggies, broth and meats. That small detail definitely made me feel like place was special.

The PuPu platter was next and again I was impressed with the presentation. They brought it over with a mini flame grill in the center where you are supposed to grill the bbq chicken. That was unexpected but definitely a plus in my book as that’s only things the fancier places in La Jolla and Carlsbad do.

Once the entrees came out, we were overwhelmed by how much we ordered. We should have just ordered two instead of 3 entrees. (it was too much food!!)

The waiters came by every 10 mins or so to check on us which again was another breath of fresh air compared to my other experiences and dine-in restaurants.

Overall, our experience was fantastic and I can’t wait to bring my extended family to eat here in these coming holidays.

Thank you Chin’s for making our lil date night a core memory.

We have eaten here multiple times and have never been disappointed. This time around we ordered 81. General Tao’s Chicken, 37. Assorted Wonton Soup, and the 21. Egg Roll (4). My wife was feeling under the weather and the soup brightened her mood. She said it was exactly what she needed. The egg rolls were crisp and fresh. General Tao’s Chicken was absolutely delicious. There are chilies in the dish. So, be aware if you are spice averse.

I highly recommend eating in person as well. It’s a very nice restaurant and a great place to go for a midweek meal as well as special occasions.

Looking forward to trying other dishes on their extensive menu!

Typically, when we eat or dine at Asian restaurants, it usually is on Convoy Street. However, sometimes you can have a hidden gem somewhere else. One such Chinese restaurant is Chins Gourmet, which is located in El Cajon, California.

Chins has a wonderful selection of Chinese food on their menu. The restaurant is spacious, and there are several seating areas. It is beautifully decorated.

We have dined with them before, and the food has always been delicious. I a. Especially fond of the noodle soups. The food was delicious tonight, and the dishes we ordered were great. The portions are large, and they are easily sharable. Even the noodle soup I had for dinner this evening was large and full of pork ribs and noodles.

It’s great when the restaurant staff remembers you from your previous visits. This happened tonight, and we haven’t been there for several months. They are very friendly and helpful. They can help you with recommendations if you need help. The staff members are also very friendly.

Overall, we were very satisfied with our dinner and dessert. The staff are all so kind. Each time we have dined with them, we have had a wonderful experience.

I’ve been on the search for the best takeout Chinese food in San Diego and finally found it!!! If I could give 10 stars for how tasty the food was I would lol

I usually rate my Chinese food places based on how many times I get up to refill my plate. This was the first time I ever got up for a fourth time to have more because it was that good!

We got the plum tree beef (my new favorite!), lo mein noodles with beef (perfect flavor and stickiness), and chicken with garlic sauce (different than what I thought I was ordering but tasted delicious too).

Will be back regularly, already can’t wait !

Chin gourmet has consistently excellent food. The steamed fish is silk like in its texture and the flavors are fabulous. The hot and sour imperial soup is I would eat only that and come back for more. The crispy orange beef is tender and sooo flavor rful i you are missing out if you are not coming down here to try out their fabulous food

This is my 3rd time here. The food was delicious and the ambiance was great. We got to meet the owner himself who took our order & recommended some dishes and hooked us up with a beef dish (forgot what’s the name). The imperial soup is to go to, packed with flavors & minced ingredients of shrimp, chicken, crabmeat, water chestnuts & mushrooms in a light egg flower broth. Everything is delicious.

Absolutely stellar experience at this Chinese restaurant! From the moment we walked in, the service was outstanding. Our waitress was not only efficient but also delightfully funny and kind, adding a personal touch to our dining experience. The ambiance was impeccable – clean, classy, and fancy, creating the perfect setting for a memorable meal. As for the food, it exceeded all expectations! I even sent my neighbor, who used to work at the prestigious Marine Room in La Jolla, and he wholeheartedly agreed that the meat was of excellent quality. Without a doubt, this restaurant earns a solid 5 stars in every aspect. Highly recommended!

The lunch deal is very lackluster compared to the value you get somewhere else (i.e. Panda Express). The chicken tastes better, but the sauce tastes almost like a lighter version of an orange sauce/sweet glaze, nothing special. You get one scoop of rice and it’s random what type of rice you get. I asked for white steamed rice and I got a scoop of brown fried rice. And the remaining compartment of the to-go container is taken up by a Chinese mustard and chili oil dipping mix for the lone, egg roll.

I also paid an extra $2 for soup to be included with my to-go order. It was an okay hot and sour soup. I overheard they rotate between hot and sour soup and corn soup each week. Knowing what I know now, it’s not worth it. The extra $2 cost for the soup, considering the value of what I got, just makes the lunch deal look much worse.

Not worth it as a lunch spot, if you’re taking your order to go. Maybe a better, more affordable, experience dining in.

The restaurants was beautiful and the staff were lovely, but the chicken… wasn’t chicken. As long as I’ve been eating chicken, I’ve never came across chicken meat that was spongy, rubbery and just bizarre like this. My gut tells me, it wasn’t chicken. Sometimes restaurants substitute meats to lower costs and that’s what I think they’re doing here. Or it has to be some heavily GMO’d chicken. It was my first time visiting Chin’s and sadly, I won’t be back. I ordered the Cashew Chicken Lunch Special. The flavor was great, so I picked out the peppers, celery and cashews, but the “chicken” was an absolute no. They also forgot my soup with my order.

We were really looking forward to trying this spot after seeing all the positive reviews. Unfortunately, it wasn’t quite the dinner experience we had hoped for. There were some things we did want to praise & highlight as not all were negative.
First of all, it was our first time visiting so we weren’t familiar with their menu, but had been asked 3 times in a span of what felt like 4 minutes whether we were ready to order. We didn’t feel the need to be rushed as their dining room was only 40-50% occupied at the time we were seated. We ordered the following dishes to share “family style” amongst the four of us (I’ve rated them on a scale of 1-5 stars):
Egg Flower Soup w/ Vegetables (3)
Crispy Cream Cheese Wontons (3)
Shanghai Steamed Dumplings (5)
Tangerine Chicken (5)
Filet Mignon w/ Chef Sauce (2)
Pan Fried Crispy Noodles (2)
Taiwanese Sausage Fried Rice (2)
Hot Tea (5)
We tried ordering their Mushrooms in a Spicy Honey Sauce vegetable dish, but they were out of it. We obviously liked their Shanghai Steamed Dumplings appetizer and Tangerine Chicken entree the most. The soup & wontons were neither great nor bad. The Filet Mignon was tender but cooked well-done, and may have been much more tender if cooked medium. The Pan Fried Crispy Noodles didn’t have much beef & chicken compared to the vegetables. Their Taiwanese Sausage Fried Rice lacked any flavor at all and looked like regular non-fried rice with eggs & bits of Chinese sausage mixed in. One thing that was a little bit of a let down was we were not given any crispy noodles with our soup. We thought the restaurant didn’t have any, but saw the crispy noodles on an adjacent table when we were almost done with the meal. Also, we weren’t offered house fried rice to accompany our entrees ordered and were just given steamed white rice. Again, I guess we should have inquired but since they didn’t offer it, assumed they didn’t have any. If their menu had indicated they had fried rice, i probably overlooked that being asked if we’re ready to order 3 times in 4 minutes after being seated. On a positive note, their dining room area was very nice, clean, and tables were spaced well apart. Their restrooms were not the cleanest we’ve seen, but they also weren’t the dirtiest. Service was good, other than appearing somewhat rushed at the beginning. Thankfully, this restaurant accepts AMEX for payment. We live over 20 minutes away, so I doubt we’ll return since there are other Chinese restaurants as good as Chin’s Gourmet or better.
