After picking up my food and getting home, I noticed that the order was incorrect. I called the location just to have the guy answering the phone YELL AT ME claiming that I placed an incorrect order. I’ve been ordering the same three-meal order, every time, for the last two years. And when I suggested that they correct the order and deliver the correct order that was bought and paid for (and pick up the incorrect order), he not only refused, but started yelling.
If you still decide to eat here, CHECK YOUR ORDER BEFORE YOU LEAVE.
When I placed my next to last order by phone, I was told the price would be $47.93. When I picked up the order, I was charged $48.99.
As soon as I got home, I called Chinatown Express & asked why I was charged an extra $1.06. Their response was “scallops more expensive”.
Note: I ordered Scallop Mei Fun (an off-menu item). My receipt shows I was charged $11.25 for House Special Mei Fun (already their most expensive Mei Fun option) plus $1 “C:Scallop”.
My primary objection isn’t simply that I was charged extra. I strongly believe that if they promise a customer a certain price, then they should stick to it.
On my next & last order, I was told by phone that my price would be $42.97. When I picked up the order, I was charged $41.90.
When I got home & looked at my receipt, each item’s price matched what’s listed on their menu & there were no credits of any kind.
They did NOT charge me $1.07 less. Instead, they tried fooling me because of what happened last time. Implicitly calling your customer stupid is something you never want to do to any customer, regular or not.
If they really wanted to take action to satisfy a regular customer, they should have taken $1 off my next order (& also explicitly point it out (nothing was said about price differences when I picked up my order)). If they didn’t want to take action, they should have simply told me an accurate price.
What’s very sad is that I am not complaining food quality, service, etc. Except for what I described above, I’ve been relatively satisfied with Chinatown Express in general (which is why you see 2 stars vs. 1).
They didn’t use too much business common sense during my last 2 orders.
I wasn’t too happy about what happened on my next to last order, but I was willing to let it slide. After what happened my last order, they’re probably going to lose a regular customer.
To also help illustrate that they lacked business common sense on my last 2 orders, consider the following numbers.
From 10/19/22 to 3/13/25 (877 days), I placed 58 orders (slightly less than 1 order every 2 weeks), spending $2,312.68.
