Service. The young man at the desk seemed annoyed that you had customers. He offered no welcome or smile. When another customer asked if he knew how much longer she needed to wait for her order (she said she’d been waiting almost an hour), he didn’t say a word, just walked away and mumbled an update a few minutes later.
Atmosphere. Having a greeter with such a negative attitude really kills the hospitality of your restaurant. Being able to see the cluttered stuff on the table behind the counter feels messy. The menus are old and faded. Nothing feels like you care.
Food. We ordered sesame chicken, sweet and sour chicken, egg rolls, fried rice, and wonton soup. The sesame chicken was the worst. The chicken was absolutely destroyed in the fryer. We had to chisel it apart with our chopsticks. The chicken was so crusty that I didn’t know where the chicken ended and the breading began. It tasted like old oil. No amount of sauce can cover that up. The egg roll was dripping in grease. I’m pretty sure you need your oil to be hotter. I actually liked the roll itself but it was prepared badly. The rice was soggy and gross looking. Add more vegetables for some color and don’t let it cook so long or something. It was bad. The soup was good and the sweet and sour chicken was decent. (Not sure why the chicken in that one was edible but the sesame was not).
In the end, we couldn’t help but laugh when our dinner was finished with a crushed, stale fortune cookie that had no fortune inside of it! How unfortunate.
Unsanitary to say the least.
I washed 3 people!! Come to the hot bar to get food with a dirty plate they ate from. Dirty utensils. After speaking with the manager, he acted as if no issue! And I had mentioned he has a policy stated on the wall to use new dishwater each time of getting food. And they do not enforce!! So eat at your own Risk! If you don’t mind sharing germs.
Misses: 1) the egg drop soup was gelatinous, 2) the steamed chicken and veggies was more like boiled, still wet and bland, and 3) the orange chicken was sweet and not very orange-y but the texture was good- nicely fried.
Wins: 1) the moo shu pork was really tasty and 2) the Singapore chow mei fun was proper spicy and really flavorful,
Middle of the road: 1) the steak was fine (nothing particularly good, nothing particularly bad), and 2) the rice was fine but could have been a big contributor to help
The interior felt like a liminal space- nothing on the walls matched in aesthetics and there were a comical amount of fire sprinklers on the ceiling amongst the 3 totally mismatched chandeliers.
I was surprised that I was the only customer eating in the restaurant.
However, they were doing a steady takeout business.
I’d probably go back if I had another hankering for Chinese food.
