Hole in the wall kinda place. Run down. But…best Chinese Food in the area. Owners, who i believe are a family) are great. They will call you if youre late though so be on time to pick up your order. Only one time did i get a weong item and it was an order of pork fried rice vs more white rice. Obviously not a big deal, but i asked because it was for a kid and they rushed, got my rice, let me keep other rice, redid the bag and sent me on my way. Friendly and fast. If you live in the area, i definitely would recommend going here, in my opinion. There are a few more options in town that are fine too. China Town is just the best one.

We picked up shrimp rolls, egg rolls, the chicken and broccoli combo, and the boneless spare ribs combo. Everything tasted great and the portions were generous. Food was ready on time and well-packaged. The only reason I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that a couple of items weren’t as hot as I would have liked. Overall, solid Chinese food and I’d definitely order again!

My favorite dish here is the beef with broccoli. I’m happy as long as I eat it. It’s so good and easily the best food in all of Torrington. I could eat it every single day for dinner and just go on and on about how good it tastes. If you haven’t tried it yet, go for it! You won’t be disappointed ❤️‍

One of their biggest strengths is their veggies. They actually taste good and they’re generous with them. I say this as someone who hates veggies. But if you’re not a veggie person, you can ask for no veggies and it’ll still taste amazing.

They also have really unique homemade sauces that you won’t find anywhere else. Definitely give those a try too.

As for fried foods, my favorites are the Chinese donuts, chicken wings, and fried baby shrimp. The shrimp are super crispy and honestly one of my favorite appetizers. And they’re generous with the portions too. Twenty pieces in one order is a lot.

All in all, try their food! They’re really good.

I can’t believe how many fake reviews there are of this place….Don’t buy your Chinese food from this place EVER.

I don’t live in Torrington but I was passing through town and only stopped here because of these phoney reviews saying how good the food was.

I didn’t call in my order but actually walked in and placed the order (for $50 dollars worth of food) and I waited in my car.

Ordered the beef with broccoli combo (very little beef, the broccoli was hard and NOT cooked fully, the egg roll was nothing to brag about and the fried rice was iffy at best)

Ordered the sweet and sour chicken which was ok but totally small portions and size of the pieces of chicken were tiny bites at best.

Ordered fried shrimp (20 pieces) with fried rice combo. The shrimp were good but again the rice was awful. The rice literally tasted like it was LEFT OVER and heated in an oven. That’s how bad it was…

Wonton soup which was the worst I ever had in my life. No strips of pork and the broth tasted like water. They give you this ridiculously small amount of crispy noodles. This place is cheap beyond belief when it comes to portion sizes….And the noodles were stale. I threw the soup out it was so bad.

How do you actually mess up soup?

I ordered an extra shrimp roll which they charged me for but did NOT put in the bag…

Before I left I asked the unfriendly woman behind the counter (the owner actually) if everything was in the bag. She replied “Yes”…. No smile, no thanks for your business, no have a nice day. No nothing. And no $2.40 shrimp roll.

But I took her word that “everything I paid $50 for was in the bag”….. Bad mistake. Liar.

After getting home (I live a half hour away) I called up to complain about the missing item. When you call it goes to a switchboard where you leave your number and they call you back.

Finally the owner calls me back and I ask her to refund my credit card. She says she can’t but she can void my $50 and then recharge me $47… Which still ties up my credit card (for $97 until it clears in 2 days)…But I did it anyways… She was getting really aggravated because she DIDN’T know how to issue a refund. I told her I am an attorney and I dont like being ripped off.

Her first suggestion was that she would give me a credit when I visit again.(Did she really think I would trust her after she just ripped me off?)

I told her I will probably never be there again because I was just passing through Torrington.

There was no apology, no sorry for the mistake. No nothing.. Just the worst Chinese food I have ever had in my life…

The people in Torrington who supposedly write these reviews must have never had good Chinese food in their lives if they think this place is good…

Btw,

I also had 5 fried wings and I cannot believe how small they were. These were “full size wings” too… They must get their wings from the smallest chickens on the planet.. Or maybe they get their wings from Cornish Hens or something.

You have been warned. I have done my public service for the day. AVOID THIS PLACE. Unless you want poor customer service, crappy food and pathetic portions….

I wonder if the Health inspector has visited China Town in Torrington recently.

Essentially, there are. two types of Chinese restaurants, in the USA. The well-known commercial cookie-cutter style and “Family Style” or “HomeStyle”… Restaurants that serve their food “Family Style” virtually don’t exist. I was completely clueless to this until I just happened to order from a place in Southington, CT for the first time ever first at age 38 (and I’m no stranger to Chinese food). I believed this to be a rather special find at, this stage of my life. I’m, currently, 40 and I recently moved to Torrington. I, first, tried “Chinatown” bc it’s named after Chinatown in NYC and (at this moment) it is also the highest Google-rated local Chinese restaurant in this area. Reviewers seemed overly satisfied with the quality, the presentation and the price. The provided photos looked appetizing however the photos didn’t make me expect anything other than a solid upper quality standard Chinese joint – which is the best One would typically hope for. Pics don’t really do it justice. It’s something you need to experience, for yourself. Still, I did provide a photo of a Wonton uncut and cut which may help. (BTW, the prices are a dollar or 2 more for everything at the first place I discovered in Southington and I didn’t know why until I got home and ate it. Chinatown, here in Torrington, doesn’t charge more for the proper quality) I didn’t know what I was truly in for until my first bite due to competitive pricing and understanding this type of Commercial restaurant is extremely uncommon. Immediately, I knew this was a “Family-Style” restaurant and would continue to be my one and only go-to Chinese restaurant in this area. I even called and praised them after my meal. In fact, I still do to the delivery driver every time. It’s strange that, being an American, it took 38 years to discover this was even a thing then move to another region and by some stroke of dumb luck find one again. There just happens to be a select few restaurant owners who actually care enough to serve their patrons the same level of quality they serve for their family and for themselves. I appreciate that. I believe you will, also. Out of respect I am not going to mention the name of the other “Family-Style” restaurant other than the fact that it’s in Southington. Both prep their dishes and cuts of meat slightly different, which makes sense since it’s homestyle and we are all unique individuals, but neither is actually better than the other in terms of quality. As already mentioned the menu pricing at Chinatown is better due to it remaining competitive with the other cookie-cutter restaurants therefore I did not expect this. Skeptical? simply order the wonton soup and that’s enough right there to show you what I mean. Pick one out observe it try it. Notice that it isn’t loose & floppy with a gray ball of who_knows_what mixed with filler like you see basically everywhere else. I assume some company or two mass-produces, boxes and freezes the lesser-quality common Wonton we know all too well that is typically served at just about every Chinese restaurant around. It’s obvious the Wonton from Chinatown is freshly prepared in the restaurant like a ravioli/tortollini with the same high quality juicy fatty beef inside they use with their beef entries. And talk about AL dente -Stick a fork in it you better eat it or use something to slide it off. Perhaps you once knew of a local restaurant that serves “Family-Style” and you have moved within this area. We’ll, then look no further. Chinatown is your spot. Either way if you’re a fan of Chinese food just order from Chinatown. You won’t regret it. If you haven’t had “Authentic” homestyle Chinese food before then you are in for a fantastic treat and I guarantee YOU WILL NOT SETTLE FOR THE ‘FACTORY COMMERCIAL-STYLE’, AGAIN – if given the choice.

Enjoy.

Customer service was horrible and very unwelcoming. I will not be patronizing this establishment again. They charge extra for sauce even after purchasing multiple orders. To make matters worse, there were sanitation issues, including finding hair in the food. Overall, a very disappointing experience.

I had never been here before, But I will definitely be coming back. I just needed a snack so I ordered an eggroll and teriyaki beef stick appetizer, The steak is super tender, and really tasty, and the eggroll is perfect crispy and not all mushy inside. I don’t go out for Chinese very much because I can never find a place that does it right, I’ll update when I go back for a real meal
They were very friendly and inviting as well.

found a chicken bone in our food, but that wasn’t the issue to why i’m leaving a bad review.
i called them to let them know. very unapologetic for what occurred. they told me they couldn’t refund me because we made the purchase on a card. they made up an excuse saying the cook didn’t clean off the chicken properly… i understand mistakes happen, but to say that to a customer and then not take accountability for it is a different story. they ended up telling me i had to drive back to the store to get a refund in cash. did that and to also give them the rest of the food we got (all chicken so didn’t trust it), then they told me they had already refunded the card for that one meal that the bone was in.
