Absolutely disgusting! Found bugs in both rice and sweet & sour sauce! Chicken was burnt to a crisp. Nothing in the order was edible. My kids love Chinese and wouldn’t even touch it. Will never be back!

China Kitchen is located in the heart of Shepherdstown, WV. From the moment you walk into this establishment, you can feel the vibe that it is an authentic Family Owned Chinese Restaurant. I was greeted by the owner and her, I assume, her daughter. Welcoming people and quaint atmosphere.
I ordered the items that are typically harder to make the right way and the reward of getting it right is amazing. They captured the essence of the Spicy Bean Curd (Tofu) and the egg drop. The wonton soup tasted great, they must make their own wontons.
Overall it was a great meal. Definitely recommend.

Very disappointed! Chicken and White Rice were way overcooked!& the thing is we didn’t even order the combo& they scammed us by doing a $4 tip when we didn’t even put in a tip! We would have left a tip if we would have dined in. There was one worker that was just sitting on her butt doing nothing! We are never going back there. $16 later, not worth it!

This isn’t cooking, this is stir-fry with heavy soy sauce. No pot of tea, which to me is standard at MOST traditional Chinese restaurants (which this is). The Hot & Sour soup was neither but rather bland. The Shepherdstown Five-O tasted like a straight heavy and slightly salty soy sauce stir fry. The dish had the freshness and texture of food that was prepared for a buffet table about 3 hours ago, dished out of a tray and warmed in the microwave. The Fortune Cookie was stale, the atmosphere is unappetizing, the counter is cluttered with papers and stuff, the place was empty at 5:30pm on an early Friday in the summer, and the dour Mama seated at a table in view of the door answered, when I asked if they were open, “The door is open”. I should have left. Can’t believe they are still in business! Very disappointing.

I go into China Kitchen pretty regularly as I’m in my senior year at the nearby university. My advice is get the lemon chicken. I dunno what they put in it, but it’s seriously delicious. The fried rice is also consistently good. Lunch prices are really reasonable and portion sizes are just right (for me anyway).
Also, as an aside, don’t believe reviews from white people saying the older Chinese ladies in these places are rude. The proprietress is extremely friendly with regulars; I’ve overheard her asking after people’s jobs and children. It just took like a year for her to warm up enough to feel comfortable exchanging chitchat with me. If you need a friendly American smile everywhere you go, only go to American restaurants.

Do not go here plain and simple!!! Disgusting!!!!! We didn’t stay to eat…we found mold in the hot mustard and sweet and sour sauce place stank server had ear buds in while taking our orders where we had to keep repeating our orders it was a terrible place needs to be shut down by the health dept and acted like we were to blame when we refused to stay and eat AND STILL WANTED US TO PAY EVEN THOUGH WE DID NOT GET ANYTHING BUT APPATISERS AND WOULD NOT EAT THEM EITHER…..CLEAN THE PLACE UP AND MAYBE YOU COULD KEEP CUSTOMERS…

We ordered take out last night. One order of shrimp broccoli and one order of General Tso chicken. The food smelled decent but once it hit the plate it was a different story. One bite into the broccoli was hard and the shrimp were over cooked. After combing thru the shrimp broccoli after three bites I noticed something weird in my food. A small baby shrimp that was black as black could be. At first I thought it was a hot pepper but it was absolutely disgusting. I tried eating one more shrimp but the food was unflavored and tough. My husband starting eating his General Tsos and the shape of the meat looked different than any other General Tso’s . Same thing, meat was hard and disgusting and overcooked. Three bites in and he was done. We had two egg rolls with our meal that was the only edible thing honestly and nothing special, equivalent to what you may have on a buffet somewhere. We are severely dissatisfied with the quality of the food and the total cost was 35.00 for both meals to land in the trash after just a few bites. The appearance of the restaurant was also disgusting. As you stand to pay at the register, look behind you at the station that is absolutely disgusting with all the grease and you can stand to see where the open kitchen looks like a dungeon back there and definitely not the cleanest. I have not been here for many years and The dining room looks run down with the floors coming up. I actually had second thoughts after my observations of the restaurant as I was waiting for my food to be prepared if I should just walk out and say screw this nasty hole in the wall restaurant “ I hope I don’t get sick from eating here” I encourage you to read all the one star reviews as this by far is not an exaggeration of my experience. We were thinking of calling and complaining but after reading how the owners address their customers I don’t doubt that asking for a refund would have even happened. I wouldn’t dream of feeding the food to my dogs. Thank God we didn’t get food poisoning from this disgusting establishment. Shame on you for serving your community inedible food and having a disgusting, filthy establishment.
