I’m a KC resident but will stop here any time I’m in the area. It’s a big time family favorite. I’ve tried at least 4-5 different dishes and have never been disappointed. The portions are huge, even for someone with a big appetite. They’re always very generous and throw in extra items if they’re running behind even a couple minutes. Super affordable too!

AWFUL!!! THE WORSE FOOD I HAVE EVER ATE! Chicken fried rice doesn’t look right no vegetables no eggs just looks like brown rice and fats pieces of chicken that doesn’t look like it’s real chicken looks like fatty tissues of some kind the rice taste like it was boiled to long its soft and mushy…I mean awful im still in shock how bad it was!

Was treated rudely when I went there during the noon lunch hour on a weekday to eat. When I ordered the place was completely dead with no customers and they weren’t working on any orders. Then a few people came in and two of them left 10 minutes after that with their food then 25 minutes into my 30 minute lunch break I asked if I could please have my money back as I would not have time to eat my lunch at this point. At that point I noticed that they were working on about six different to go plates at once and the two people there looked at me angrily and it seemed that they were cussing me out in their native tongue. Then the lady that worked there said it’s done and hastily got together my food and gave it to me. I didn’t have time to eat my food until much later on that day when it was cold. This is my first time in there and the experience was bad enough that I won’t be back in. I do not recommend this place. Very unprofessional!

I get no satisfaction is writing less-than-excellent reviews, but do so hoping ownership cares enough to listen to what is intended to be constructive criticism. My wife and I used to love this place . Five stars all the way. But, it’ been about four years since we’ve been here, just before we moved from Smithville. Our experience last night was just lesser than we’ve experienced here before. Let’s start with the positive. The crab rangoon was great! Egg rolls were good too. However, the General Tso’s chicken was way overcooked and very tough. The cashew chicken was way too salty – not just too salty. Besides these miscues, it’s what we expected here. Maybe it was a cook having a bad night, but I do want to bring this to their attention. I wish these folks well. Support local!

Be aware when ordering your food from China King in the City of Smithville, MO.
This evening, I was at the restaurant to pick up my call in order, the lady took my payment and she went to put the food order together using her bare hands and I saw as she wiped her hands on her clothes then picked up the crab rangoons with her bare hands then put them into a bag, but she used a tong to pick up the egg rolls. The two male cooks preparing food but no one didn’t wear gloves.
When the lady handed my order I brought up what I saw, she was only interested to see on reimbursing me back for the egg rolls ♀️. I let her know that she touch with her bare hands the register, her necklace, wiped her hands on her clothes and then touched food – I asked if she knew she was doing wrong (cross contamination) and she said “I know”.
So for those of you that enjoy eating Chinese good – I DO NOT RECOMMEND this restaurant – be cognizant of how people prepare & handle your food order.

The food is good, but if you order online, they rarely have the food ready when you arrive or by the estimated time. I typically give a 15-20 grace period after the estimated time and it still isn’t ready despite them not appearing busy. The most recent order I arrived 10 minutes after my estimated time and when someone came up to help me, they printed off my ticket and told me to sit down and it’d be a few minutes. I didn’t expect any kind of discount for the inconvenience, but I would have appreciated an apology.

This place has become trash. My food is never ready on time. The last two times they have completely ruined my order. It’s never right. When I call the order they gladly take my order but it’s not until I arrive at the restaurant that they tell me half of the food that I ordered isn’t even in stock. Then I have to sit there and wait while they cook whatever I decide to replace it with. Don’t waste your time. Drive to Gladstone for Chinese food.

We have been loyal customers of China King for years. Service and food quality has fluctuated over the years with various owners, but has always been okay (not the best Chinese food we’ve had, nor the worst). In recent orders, our food has always been ready much later than what we were quoted and the staff has not been incredibly kind. Our experience today, however, was frustrating and is likely the last time we’ll order from this establishment. We ordered food online and when we arrived to pick it to, were greeted by a gentleman who came from the back and shouted “go away, come back.” There was another customer in the restaurant eating who explained she thought they had left to make a delivery. I can understand short staffing (if that was the issue), but in no way does this seem acceptable. We don’t plan to go back.
