Stopped in as I was craving some Chinese . Got the general Tao’s lunch special. $8.95 comes with pork fried rice and a small drink. Stopped at lunch so was very busy. The decor was that of what likely used to be a Mexican restaurant. Ample bench style tables . The portion size was quite large for the price. The chicken was good ( a tad too sweet for me ) spice level minimal . Overall not too bad . Staff friendly .

Passing through Liberty, NC, I decided to grab a quick bite at China House Chinese Restaurant after noticing a sign on the door addressing their understaffing issues. Understanding the challenges small businesses face, I patiently waited for my order, hoping to support a local spot. Unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired.

I ordered the Black Pepper Chicken Combination Plate, which turned out to be a big mistake. What I received was essentially a plate of green peppers with a sprinkle of chicken—clearly using the peppers as filler to compensate for the lack of meat. Alongside the green pepper overload was a heap of rice, making the dish feel more like a budget-friendly vegetable stir fry than a proper chicken plate.

To make matters worse, the egg roll was laughably small, barely larger than a tube of chapstick. I took before-and-after pictures, showing just how much filler I had to scoop out to get to the little chicken that was actually there.

Small restaurants struggle to survive, especially in small towns—but cutting corners on portion sizes and quality is not the way to keep customers coming back. If they’re having this much trouble in a town with limited options, they wouldn’t stand a chance in a bigger city where competition is fierce.

Final Verdict: 0/5 – I will NOT be returning.
If you’re looking for a satisfying meal, you’re better off driving a little further for better quality and portions. Photos posted for reference.

Had the general tso lunch special. Food had good flavor but the chicken was rubbery and was a very small portion compared to other places. Vegetable Fried rice was good with nice flavor but also smaller portion.

Would I try other food? I think so— I would try a few more menu items.

If you want good Chinese food, go somewhere else. They use to have good food, but it hasn’t been good in a long time. The fried rice is always dry almost like it’s old, normal dishes like general tso chicken has a completely different flavor profile from other places and tastes more like sweet and sour, the egg rolls were made smaller recently about half the size they use to be, and the low mein isn’t good. They need a big food overhaul, but I doubt they will ever do it.

I am new to the area and haven’t had good Chinese food in a decade. This place has been in the family for close to 50 years. The food is some of the best I have eaten. The owner interacts with the clients and is very friendly. It’s inspection rating is 99.5. It was so good I could barely put it aside when I got full.

Portions do not compare to other Chinese restaurants. Order shrimp fried rice and chicken wings but all orders barely had rice. Very disappointing.

Been going here for 10+ years and its still one of the best chinese takeout places in my opinion. Sometimes the food is better than other times, but I would say its good the majority of the time. The Sesame chicken combo with fried rice and chow mei fun are the only things we ever get. The place isn’t always open during opening hours and somehow that also gives a dopamine rush when you call and they answer.

Lo mein was doused in oil and flavorless.
Fried rice was dry and vegetables were undercooked. Also, relatively flavorless.

Crab rangoons are very good, but also greasy; however, that is to be expected with fried foods.
The staff is friendly, but I will probably avoid eating here again because all the oil/grease really hurt my stomach.

Was excited to try and someone said the food was really good here. Got take out. And was disappointed. Ordered sweet and sour chicken with fried rice. House lo mein. Crab Rangoon.
The fried rice had no veggies and was bland. The chicken had a weird taste and couldn’t finish eating. The lo mein was too greasy. The only good thing was the crab rangoon.
Guy at the front was nice though.
