Went with my boyfriend for their lunch special ($33 for 3 dishes), and it hits so haaaard. Not only the food was life-changing, but also because of the cheaper price, the ambience, the “hidden gem” feeling, and the very chill server, the experience is now very very life-altering.
We ordered spicy fish fillet (it wasn’t spicy at all), duck blood, and spinach with beef. All of them were good. They didn’t have much spices like other Chinese restaurant, but the simpleness feeling of the dishes made them felt hearty and homey. We were particularly digging the duck blood, it had such a bizarre yet good taste. Will definitely come back and try more things!!!
Update: we came here for the second time and the server remembered us!!! He even remembered that we asked about how the duck blood was and that he said it was good. Anyway, we ordered spicy duck blood with tofu, lychee sweet and sour pork, and szechuan eggplant, and everything was good. I changed my mind about Mu Lan, this is now my best Chinese restaurant in Boston.
I absolutely love the conch rice noodles, it was so thin and fun. The texture was different from other rice noodles. I also love their special wonton soup. They look different from the normal Cantonese wontons, it was smaller but it was good. The soup was umami. The fresh fish in tomato was absolutely breathtaking!
If you’re in town and want something other than Cantonese food, try them out. They specialize in Szechuan, Xiang and Min cuisines.
The super friendly waiter, Sam was the highlight of the meal. He checked to see how we liked each dish. That’s customer service!
There was a decent amount of drink options but all pretty standard stuff that were in bottles or cans.
The sliced beef with watercress could have used a bit more beef but had nice flavor. The fish fillets dish has cabbage and bean sprouts underneath that weren’t mentioned on the menu.
