This place used to be so much better

The food here is really good— possibly some of the best fast food in the five towns. I love the rice bowls and the embrulho. But the service here detracts from the dining experience. Unlike other restaurants around here, they charge money for sauces. Unlike other restaurants around here, they don’t offer any lunch special deals.

The service is slow in-store, and one of the workers is incredibly rude. I asked her if I could just pay to add vegan cheese to my burger because I’ve done it here before, and she accused me of lying and told me off in a rude tone. It’s funny because I’ve seen other reviewers mention her unprofessional behavior as well.

Also, they didn’t even have forks today. They gave me a spoon to eat my fried chicken.

The stinginess of this restaurant is making me appreciate coming here less and less every time…

(This photo of the rude worker was from a different reviewer, but is the one I was talking about).

Eight Years of Loyalty—Now Sadly, the Flame Has Gone Out

My wife and I have been loyal customers of Chimichurri for nearly eight years—long before we were married. I first discovered it while working at St. John’s Hospital in Far Rockaway, when colleagues ordered it for a late shift. The food blew me away, and I couldn’t wait to share it with my wife, who came from Miami at the time. She normally doesn’t like chicken, but after her first bite she said it was the best chicken she’d ever tasted. For years, we both agreed.

Back then, Chimichurri was a cozy little spot—half the size it is now, with only a few tables, a warm atmosphere, and an owner who genuinely cared about the food and his guests. The charcoal aroma, the perfectly crisp skin, the juicy meat—it was everything you wanted from comfort food with pride behind it. The lines were always long, and everyone waited happily because they knew it would be worth it.

Unfortunately, as the restaurant expanded, the quality began to slip little by little. Prices went up, sauces started coming with extra charges, and the food just didn’t have the same heart. Still, we kept coming back, hoping the magic would return.

Yesterday, after driving an hour and a half through traffic from Manhattan (we now live five and a half hours away), we stopped by one more time for old times’ sake. Sadly, this visit confirmed what we feared—the chicken was cold, the sides were cold, and the flavors that once made this place special were gone. We finished our meal out of hunger, not enjoyment.

Reading through the reviews now, I notice that many newer guests seem satisfied, but longtime customers like us can tell the difference. The heart of Chimichurri—the passion and warmth that built its reputation—feels lost in the pursuit of expansion.

We’re grateful for all the memories this place gave us, but this visit marked the end of our journey here. Maybe one day, if the flame is rekindled, we’ll come back. For now, we’re saying goodbye to what was once our favorite chicken in New York.

The one thing that remained, is the tasty chimichurri sauce.

The fried chicken was delicious! We got the dark mean and it was really good. The Ratatouille and coleslaw were ok. The fries weren’t soggy and the salad was good. The food was warm, NOT hot. They are very cheap with table wear and sauces… They knew we came in with 3 people, ordered a salad and the half chicken to share and only gave us 2 plates and sets of silverware until we asked, additional, they charged for any extra sauce… We got 4 pieces of chicken and only give you one small container of sauce with it … It should have come with 2… Since you get one container with 2 pieces of chicken. The dining area was nice big and clean. They don’t have any soap/paper towels in the bathroom but there are sinks with both right outside the restrooms.

Terrible service from this girl. She treated me badly. If you don’t want to work, look for another place. Or if you didn’t have a good day, don’t treat people who have nothing to do with you badly. I simply wanted her to help me organize and she treated me terribly. I won’t return to this place.

Chimichurri in Queens was a decent experience overall. They offer two different menus, one more Mediterranean style and the other leaning Latin, so I tried a mix of shawarma plates and burritos for the office. The portions were good and the food was still enjoyable even though I ate later than everyone else. Some of the flavors were different than expected, with curry notes that caught me a bit off guard, but nothing was bad. I did not try everything, so I would still be open to coming back again if I am in the area, even if it is not a place I would specifically seek out.

The best kosher chicken place I’ve ever been to—from their sandwiches to their fried chicken, nothing compares to their delicious flavor; they don’t even need sauces because there just that good. Wish they had more locations like in Brooklyn. Highly recommend

I used to really like Chimichurri, but the food has gotten much worse. The guy there constantly tries to push the Yerushalayim mix, and it’s honestly the nastiest thing I’ve had. He dumped in a bunch of random spices, made it way too spicy, and claimed it was a good balance of different meats. There was no beef at all—mostly turkey, which felt very cheap.
This really upset me. I paid about $30 and could have had a simple sandwich that would’ve tasted much better. He promised it would be very tasty and well balanced, but it was disgusting and nothing like what he described.

Great prices, great food, staff is friendly and helpful.
Chimichurri is a nice little unassuming restaurant. Seeing it from the street you’d never guess how good it is. The ingredients are all fresh and cooked to perfection and there are a wide variety of delicious sides to choose from.
Great food for the whole family.

Third time eating here. I think it is the best fried chicken I ever had. The sides are decent. Make sure to get the wings. They recently raised prices it used to be more affordable. I don’t like how one sauce is 50 cents. If I am paying 20 dollars for a meal I think it is fair to get more then one complimentary sauce. Overall I would eat here once a month it is very good. Thanks guys.
