I travel a lot and try to stick with food chains that I know are generally consistent in quality. When you work all day on a boat and look forward to a nice meal at the end of the day it sucks to be so disappointed and honestly left hungry.
Being told 45 minutes wait we decided to sit up at bar. Took 10 minutes to get an order in.
I ordered the 6 oz sirloin which is usually decent and just the right size portion for me. Medium Rare should be warm red center. Some blood would be great. This was a horrible cut with grizzle and not even close to Medium much less MR. So tough and nasty I tried to cut all up and find a few good edible bites. No luck. I ate mashed potatoes and broccoli for dinner basically because that steak was so bad I left it on the plate. MOST good waiters would ask if it was ok/problem…. nope. She avoided me like the plague. My husband still tipped 20% even though she really did nothing and horrible food. I was told they didn’t have coffee so water with my meal already sucked for me. How simple is coffee? Then was told she didnt think they had chips left. WAIT WHAT? Is that even a possibility at chilis? No chips and salsa. Then she comes from back with a cold batch but at least chips. The bottom layer were so greasy they were inedible.
I should have read reviews first.
FOOD: all of the food was great and flavorful with the exception of the Margarita Chicken. I substituted the sides for broccoli and asparagus. I only got two broccoli florets and the esparagus was way overcooked to the point that it was dry like hay and couldn’t be eaten. The chicken itself was okay. Slightly dry but good enough to eat. The BBQ Brisket burger, Triple Dipper, Chicken Bacon Quesadilla, and Honey Chip Crisper were all excellent.
When we walked in, three people were standing near the entrance and several other groups were waiting near the seating area. It was completely unclear who had checked in and who was waiting. We stood there for several minutes without being acknowledged, while another couple who walked in after us was greeted immediately. I approached the hostess myself to be added to the waitlist and was told it would be 15–20 minutes. We didn’t understand the long wait when there were servers walking around everywhere and a bunch of empty tables.
After about 15 minutes, when we were finally seated, the hostess sat us directly beside a party of approximately 12–14 people, despite many other open tables. There was no reason to place a couple immediately next to a large group when other seating options were available.
We then waited about 10 more minutes without being greeted by anyone. A table seated after us, right behind us, was promptly acknowledged and served their drinks and had their app order taken while we still had not even been spoken to at all. After continuing to wait without any service, we decided to just leave. While walking towards the door, again no one addressed us. I know we’re not invisible. My advice is to give that hostess another task.
The entire experience was disorganized and poorly managed. What makes it so bad is we love Chili’s and were looking forward to a great meal. But we surely won’t be rushing back to that location.
Then we decided to give the Chili’s at Great Bridge in Chesapeake a chance and it completely flipped our opinion. This location felt like Chili’s from the late 90s and early 2000s, back when it was actually fun to go there. The food was hot, fresh, and well prepared. The atmosphere was lively, the restaurant was packed, and everything just felt… right.
The service was exceptional from start to finish, and that alone says a lot in today’s restaurant world. What really sealed it for us was speaking with management and learning there is new leadership in place. It shows. They are clearly focused on turning things around, and they are doing a fantastic job.
The biggest surprise of all is that my wife, who swore she would never go to Chili’s again, now wants to come back to this one. That says everything. Huge kudos to the new management and staff. Keep it up, because this location is doing it right.
Didnt get her name; she’s young, with very long hair. I hope you never have to deal with that person, especially if you have short temperature . Second there’s trash everywhere, on the floor, on the tables. Not good.
Now to the food. We waited an hour for our food get to our table. The restaurant was pretty empty. Picture don’t lie! They’re there for to see.
The one star is solely for our waitress, & the staff who brought our food; kind, & polite 5/5 .
I personally won’t be coming back.
