I love trying new restaurants in Rockford and I’ve not yet tried Chilangos yet so I gave it a shot. They have a very nice menu full of so many things to choose from, everything looked amazing! I had a sope and a gordita and both were fresh and flavorful, could have used a squirt of lime but otherwise very pleasing and filling. Very satisfied!

The interior atmosphere is… Very unlively sadly. The place was empty on a Saturday evening, which was strange since the food was so good. The decor is a bit bland, and there were a fly or two buzzing around, which was annoying, but they’ll get in no matter where you are. The service was great, the waitress was very friendly and checked up on us often, and the chips and salsa are complimentary when you arrive and very tasty.

You should visit Chilangos if you’ve never tried it yet, you’ll enjoy it very much indeed!

Either they have a new cook or got lazy. These are not the shrimp empanadas that we were used to. The dough is raw, the oil is either old or burnt. So disappointed. Refund was provided.

every good review must be a bot. service was not great. waitress helped everyone else and actively avoided my table. didn’t ask about boxes or the check or if we needed anything. had to get our own box from the back. tacos were underfilled and undergarnished, queso was cold, rice and beans looked straight out of a can, didn’t receive queso until we asked a second time, and salsa was filled less than half of the bowl. ordered 3 taco dinner and only got 2. nachos were sad too tbh. i had high hopes for this place!

Chilango’s on Harrison has quickly become one of our to go spots. The food here is genuinely tasty, and their ceviche stands out as exceptionally fresh. For the portion size, it’s very decently priced compared to other places in town.

One of the highlights of our visits is the guacamole—they went above and beyond to make it fresh for us, which adds a special touch to the meal. Additionally, their sopes are delicious and worth trying.

The service is friendly, though it could be a bit more attentive. Despite this, we’ve been satisfied every time we’ve dined here and wholeheartedly recommend Chilango’s for anyone looking to enjoy some great affordable seafood, guacamole and sopes! We will come back to add more and we try other items in their menu.

Great service from the staff to the food!
The place was very clean and the staff were friendly and attentive. The Al pastor meat was very well seasoned (not spicy but with a good kick to it) and the steak meat was tender and juicy. Our favorites were the homemade gorditas and Guaraches because we could taste the freshness and quality. Would definitely recommend and go again for the authentic feel and overall quality all at reasonable prices.

Nice place, however the you dont get much for the money. Saying that the food was tasty! The fajitas I ordered had barely any meat and hardly any veggies. It did have about two whole onions, tho. Chips are store bought but good, and the salsa was really good.

This is a reason why places go out of business!!! why coming up with this jazzy name in a Spanish theme to disservice the community. This tastes like it came out of a can I’m promise you I’m not being mean I’ve just eaten all over and I take pride in giving out reviews this place is very bad… You can’t taste any seasoning whatsoever… Rice is bland. Beans no flavor. The chicken street taco is awful…. No flavor

I really wanted to enjoy my visit to Chilangos in Rockford, but my experience left much to be desired.

The Shrimp Ceviche was the highlight, tasty indeed. However, the lack of options beyond serving it on a tostada, coupled with a stingy serving of avocado, was disappointing.

The birria tacos and consomé were flavorful, but the meat was awkwardly lumped in the center of the taco, which made for uneven eating.

The wait staff, while friendly, seemed disingenuous, as if their hearts weren’t in their work. This might sound harsh, but it felt noticeable.

Our server wasn’t managing many tables, which should have allowed for attentive service. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. We found ourselves running low on drinks and chips & salsa without timely check-ins and had to ask for essentials like napkins — a necessity given the messy nature of ceviche tostadas.

When our rice and beans finally arrived, they were poorly presented. The rice looked like it’d been sitting out too long. There were messily wiped bean smudges around the plate edges.

Overall, the restaurant seems to lack pride in its service and presentation, focusing more on profits than on providing a welcoming atmosphere. It’s decorated nicely enough but lacks soul and care.

I might consider getting the shrimp ceviche again if it were available in a takeout container, not just on a tostada.

I liked the chicken fajitas more than the steak actually. My complaint is with the price. $17.50 for mixed fajitas is on the higher side. Sauces are excellent.

A few choice words. First the waitresses should have a notepad and pen to write customers orders and not just think they have it memorized. Second their food should have some sort of flavor and excitement to it I ordered their quesibirrias first mistake I order it with out onion and cilantro came out with onion and cilantro had to send it back told the waitress about she laughed and said that I ordered it with it. Second when it came out the meat no flavor it just look like they gave up on life in the kitchen here is some good advice season your food or look for new cooks the only thing appetizing was the fries.
