My wife and I enjoyed our dinner at Chiko. We took part in the kitchen counter experience. It was soooo much food. Well worth the $. We had enough leftovers for lunch the next day. My favorites were the beef & bone marrow fried rice, the double fried chicken wings, and all the offerings in the 3rd course (avocado salad, pork & kimchi potstickers, chicken spring roll, and garlic shrimp dumplings). The sauces on everything was so good that I could’ve drizzled the sauce on rice and been happy. We thought we were sickly full, but there’s always room for dessert. The coconut custard we had was just right. Overall a great dinner. Our server Jahlil was awesome, too!

I wanted to like CHIKO but the food was just too sweet for me, and there was too wide a gap between what I read on the menu and what I got.

For example, the sichuan cucumbers were a little earthy/musky which I didn’t dislike but wasn’t exactly what I expected. Tasted more like something from xinjiang?

And the soy glazed brisket was so sweet and saucy. Even if it was my thing (it wasn’t), “Texas BBQ” would not be how I’d have described it, especially since classic Texas BBQ is the essentially the only famous BBQ style that emphasizes no-sauce brisket.

The cumin lamb stir fry was all right. The umami egg was good – I really liked the texture of the little trout roe.

There are other items on the menu that look interesting but I’m hesitant to go back because I have no idea what the dishes actually are versus what is printed in the text.

Lovely experience on a Saturday night. Yummy food if not a little sweet (duck fried rice & bulgogi stir fry), generous portion sizes and reasonable prices, great atmosphere (good music but not too loud, warm + cozy in the winter) but the star was our server, Jaleel! He was AMAZING! So sweet and attentive, and he even offered us a free dish when they had an extra. The service really made the experience for me. Give this employee a raise!!

Really great food and a great overall experience at Chiko. I definitely recommend checking out the kitchen counter experience – it’s well worth it!

Chiko is a cozy space with a few tables up front and a counter that gives you a great view of the kitchen.

We stopped by for dinner and did the kitchen counter experience, which is a muli-course tasting menu. It’s a great way to sample a variety of dishes while watching the chefs work just a few feet away in the open kitchen. We were lucky this evening – it was just me and my friend at the countertop, so we basically had a private experience to ourselves with all the attention and great service!

The stand out item for me were the pork & kimchi potstickers. I absolutely loved them and will definitely be coming back for more. I also loved the confit duck fried rice, orange-ish chicken and garlic shrimp dumplings. All were tasty and the overall meal was super filling – we ended up taking some food home because we were so full.

Also kudos to the chef, who was amazing and provided impeccable service. He personally introduce each dish with great detail and made sure we had a great overall experience.

Overall Chiko provided great food and a great kitchen counter experience. I will definitely be returning – especially for those tasty pork & kimchi potstickers.

I ordered the duck confit fried rice, orange chicken, and kimchi. The food was great, and not your run-of-the-mill Asian food. The fried rice was basically Peking duck with the pancakes replaced with fried rice. There was a very generous portion of duck.

The orange chicken was such an interesting take. The dipping sauce tasted a little odd initially, but grew on me to the point of being almost addictive. I read a few reviews about the chicken being more batter than meat, but it was certainly not the case for me. I thought it was a very generous serving.

The kimchi was very average though, and didn’t deserve the rave reviews on here.

Servings are very large. I’m a big eater and could only finish half of the two items I ordered.

Despite this being a casual place, service was excellent. The server patiently introduced the menu to me, and shared a few off-menu specials. He also took the initiative to explain how the water dispenser worked without me asking.

The Korean fusion flavor is consistently excellent; the fried chicken has a crispy, non-greasy crust while retaining its juices beautifully. The signature fried rice is perfectly cooked, with each grain separate and not soggy, seasoned with a touch of sweet and spicy. The servers patiently explain the spiciness and ingredients, making the ordering experience easy. The dine-in environment is casual yet clean and tidy, suitable for simple gatherings. The takeout packaging is secure, preventing spills, making it a good option when you’re unsure what to eat.

My wife and I were excited to finally try this local joint, but by the time we tasted our order, we were left very disappointed. We ordered to-go, picked up right away (technically ahead of when the pickup time was scheduled for) and were home within ten minutes.

The cucumbers were visibly old, the chicken spring rolls were cold, and all of the food tasted as though it was cooked hours before and left out until we received it. Very disappointing and we could not even eat our food because it was so unpleasant.

Sorry to publish this negative review of a local chain, but just a really poor experience overall. Unfortunately will not be trying this place again.

SOOOO good! The food is incredibly flavorful and the portions are very generous. Perfect for take out or a causal dine in experience with a glass of wine or their new cocktail menu. It’s small so don’t expect anything fancy but the food makes up for the casual experience on Barracks row. It’s been a solid go to for years and just keeps getting better. The shrimp dumplings, the peanut noodles and the brisket anre always a solid and their seasonal duck fried rice is to die for. Staff is super friendly too!!

Restaurant week spread for $40, tried the pickled daikon, cold peanut noodles, lamb stir fry, and strawberry dessert. A bit more than I planned to spend, but it’s 2 meals for me! Both noodle dishes were particularly rich and flavorful, the strawberry cake thing was pretty solid too, though not at that level. Service was quick and quite friendly!

An interesting Chinese-Korean fusion concept with friendly staff. Upon entering Chiko, I was promptly greeted and handed a menu. Having heard rave reviews about the “orange-ish” chicken, I decided to try it myself. The food arrived quickly, and the dish had an inviting aroma that gave me high hopes. I added the provided sauce liberally to my chicken, but after a few bites, I found it to be crunchier than I’d anticipated, which threw me off. The actual chicken pieces were minimal, with most of the dish consisting of the crispy coating, which was a bit disappointing.

While the staff member did mention it would be on the crispier side, I expected more chicken meat in the dish. The white rice served alongside it only halfway filled me up, as I left much of the crisp coating aside. Although I appreciated the unique twist on the classic orange chicken, I would have preferred a better balance between the chicken and crispiness.

Overall, Chiko offers a welcoming service (and amazing music), but the orange-ish chicken, in my opinion, was interesting yet ultimately not something I’d order again.
