Traveling through Santa Rosa and stopped for the night. Checked Google for recommended restaurants and Chico’s has good ratings and was near our hotel. I’m so glad we tried it! We walked in the door and had chips and salsa as soon as we sat down. We ordered queso, street tacos and the strawberry and cream dessert. Everything was amazing! The fish street taco is a 5* in my book and the others were delicious too. The strawberries and cream steals the show as a fanale, total creamy Bliss. Be sure to try them out.

Restaurant is cute and the waitress was smiling and friendly. Overall a nice way to end a long day on the road.

Chico’s was across the road from our hotel. It seems many restaurants are closed on Monday’s in Santa Rosa during the winter. Fortunately they are open and in quick walking distance.

After being seated some warm tortilla chips and salsa arrived. The salsa was good, but the heat kept coming as you scooped! It was a creeper . We ordered the Carne Asada platter, two carne asada street tacos and the Caldo de Res, beef shank soup.

We enjoyed our meal. The portions were large and flavorful, even enough for left overs.

Service was attentive and quick and the food came out hot and fresh.

The restaurant was decorated with many items that were also for sale. Pottery, paintings, wall art and more.

If we’re in Santa Rosa again, we’d definitely return to Chico’s.

Chico’s in Santa Rosa, NM offers a straightforward Mexican dining experience with a familiar, casual atmosphere typical of many Mexican food establishments. The service was a little on the slow side, but staff were courteous and the environment was relaxed. We ordered the asada torta and the asada street tacos, both of which were satisfying and prepared as expected. The homemade watermelon drinks were a nice touch and refreshing. Overall, Chico’s provides a decent meal in a comfortable setting, with flavors that align well with traditional offerings.

Lovely, colorful restaurant. I ordered the house special, which prompted the waitress to warn me that their food is made fresh to order and a large sandwich might take a little longer.

I cannot stress enough how much it was worth waiting an extra few minutes for this meal. Perfectly toasted bread, with layers of meat, egg, cheese, and veg that required a fork and knife to eat.

Let me start off by saying what I ordered. I got 2 gorditas, 1/2 of loaded fries, and a horchata for my wife and I to share. The horchata had a lot of grain left over which left a thick rice texture and there was a piece of metal I caught from a strainer in the drink. The food was very lazily prepared. The gorditas were sloppy and didn’t hold shape. The green sauce was okay until the bottom got salty, and the red sauce looked like an 80s horror movie gore goop in a cup. They initially forgot our drink and I had to go back to get it. They also overcharged me a full order of loaded fries instead of the half. If you like bad spots then this might be your taste.

Quite a surprising place but definitely a must try. I’ve never had a sandwich like this and was blown away by the size and taste. Prepare to get a little messy but it is worth it!

We were a party of 8, some of my friends got the caldo de res which was great, tamales, chicken wings, queso and watermelon juice all good. I had 3 tacos, 2 Al pastor and 1 asada meat was dried, kind of dull and none of the food had Lime, didn’t taste fresh to me.
I told the waitress that it was crazy not having any limes for a Mexican restaurant…

Food here was amazing! I have a low spice tolerance teen and he loved the place! He ate the salsa and a chicken quesadilla. The lemonade was made fresh no crappy Minute Made stuff here! We tried the queso, it came with 2 baskets of chips. My fajitas were delicious and very flavorful! The burrito was huge and the tacos were delectably! The staff was super efficient and lovely. We were served in a very timely manner and ate within 15 minutes of placing our order.

Barbacoa Tacos

My buddy got tamales and he said they rivaled some we ate from a roadside stand downstate

Salsa

Our server Hennesy was very nice and accommodating.

Santa Rosa, NM, has seen better days as a community it seems, but I’m sure Chicos feeds many in this area and it is very solid Mexican eats!
