TASTY ENCHILADAS, yet small portions. Typically a enchilada dish comes with rice & beans or some sort of side. Unfortunately, Chico Malo’s enchilada order comes with only two medium-size enchiladas and nothing else. I was so lucky to order chips because I would’ve been completely unsatisfied with this visit. The flavor of my green/red enchiladas was great, however it was missing that extra touch.
Chíco Malo prioritizes decoration and presentation, over quantity. However, I believe in a balance of quantity, quality, and presentation. The food isn’t the cheapest as it’s in a nice location of DT Phoenix so I’m expecting a little more bang for my buck.
Service was decent, out server was chill guy. He thoroughly explained the menu and gave us good recommendations. The alcoholic drinks were tasty, I think this is more of an appetizer and booze spot after a trip to Mortgage Matchup.
The restaurant is huge, dim, and full of space for large groups. It’s inside Cityscape and is full of action during the weekends. Outdoor seating is available.

My aunt and uncle were visiting from New Hampshire, and I wanted to find a good restaurant with Mexican cuisine near their hotel in downtown. I had been once before with friends, and I’m so glad I came back.
The hosts were helpful in deciding whether to reserve an outdoor table. The servers were friendly and made sure we were taken care of. My uncle really liked the shrimp ceviche, I found the dorados de papa to be good, and we all enjoyed tasting the salsa trio.

Went for a birthday dinner with a friend. Food was fantastic. Ordered the Molcajete ($36), Shrimp ($27), and Tuna Tostada ($18). The Molcajete, with tortillas and rice on the side, was fantastic and the portion can be shared between 2 people. The shrimp de macha was delicious as well. The sauce that it came with was very good and paired well with the tortillas and rice from the Molcajete.
The disappointing dish was the Tuna Tostada. Just raw tuna on top of tostada. I didn’t see any Sea Molcajete which would’ve tasted better.
Our server Kloe gave constant check-ins on the food. However, she placed a cup of ice cream on my table and I thought it was a birthday treat but found out after paying that it was charged to my card.
While the atmosphere was more toward the dark, fine dining feel, the place was noisy and the music didn’t fit.
The restaurant does do validated parking at the parking garage in the basement. Just remember to get a ticket instead of using your card at the entry.

Last minute date night stop for a cocktail and small bite .. got the chicharrones de Ribeye & guacamole.. excellent choice!!
Had a “no personality” bartender at previous spot and was refreshing and pleasant to have Kloe wait on us. Greeted us so professionally and welcoming, made great suggestions and made us feel as is we knew her. Would definitely come back and request her!

A few nit picks include a broken OpenTable integration (they didn’t have our reservation in their system even though there was a confirmation email with correct date and time shown to them), guacamole that is WAY too spicy (full spiced jalapeños), and slightly forgotten about our server a few times.
However, throw it in with an InKind gift certificate and you can’t beat this spot when you’re going out on the town.

Stopped by for a quick bite to eat on my last night in Phoenix and ended up having one of the most delicious meals I’ve eaten in a while. Having heard several YouTube personalities and influencers extol the greatness of Barbacoa, I was sold as soon as I spotted it on the very well-appointed menu. Every bite was an explosion of flavour, with the succulent, slow-cooked meat taking centre stage. The portion size was generous, and a spectacular value at the price. The service was top-notch too and I have to give a shout-out to my waiter, whose name I believe was Dallas (?). He helped make my last experience in Phoenix (for now) one to savor.

The Chipotle Cauiflower was very good!!! The presentation was nice and very unique. The flavors all worked together well. I would order it again and recommend you give it a try. It was a nice portion, I did not need anything else. I will say if you’re not super hungry, it will be enough to eat and be satisfied, or good to share with 1-3 people.

To begin our birthday weekend getaway, my boyfriend and I went to Chico Malo for dinner and it’s a place that I would definitely consider going again!
I made a reservation at 5:30pm, and we were seated quickly. The ambiance was lively yet intimate with dim lighting that fit with the Mexican-inspired aesthetic that invited people to party and socialize after a hard day of work.
We have a bowl of chips with two different salsas and guacamole as a complimentary appetizer, so we solely ordered our main dishes since we knew from the size of the appetizer would be enough to satisfy us both. Although, I had a smaller appetite than usual that evening, so I tried their Dorados de Papa- a shareable dish, but just the right amount that I needed to get me full, but not painfully so. As for my partner, he ordered the Sea Molcajete that comes with octopus, shrimp, clams, and more to make for one stunning dish. It’s a large meal, so if you consider trying it, you better come in ravenous.
The server we had was very nice, checked up on us frequently, and even offered to take away a drink I had ordered and ended up not liking (my boyfriend drank it for me).
Overall, I’m glad I tried this place out and I would come back again and make sure I have more room to eat more food!
