Reviews
To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding my recent experiences with the Grosse Pointe Chicken Shack location on Mack Avenue. I have chosen this location many times because it is close to my workplace and has always been one of the better stores in my opinion. However, the events that took place on November 25, 2025, and November 28, 2025, were not only unacceptable but personally humiliating.
Incident on November 25, 2025
On 11/25/25, at approximately 7:45 PM, I ordered:
• A 24-piece mixed chicken
• Two large roasted potatoes with EXTRA butter
• Two large coleslaws
After driving home to Macomb, I discovered:
• The chicken was incorrectly portioned (9 breasts, 9 wings, 3 legs, and only 1 thigh).
• The broasted potatoes had no butter at all, despite requesting extra.
• The coleslaw was so watered down it was practically inedible.
I called the store at 8:44 PM and spoke for 6 minutes and 54 seconds with a manager who identified herself as “Danielle.” She repeatedly placed me on hold and ultimately promised a complete replacement order, but explained it could not be remade that night since they were closing. She stated that she would write down my name for a full replacement at a later date. I agreed, as it was already 8:51 PM, and I live at 21 Mile and Card, too far to return before closing at 9 PM.
Incident on November 28, 2025
On 11/28/25, at 6:23 PM, I called again while leaving work. I explained the situation and the agreement from the 25th. I was placed on hold three separate times during a 14-minute call.
I eventually drove to the store while still on hold. When I arrived, an employee informed me—after speaking with the “general manager”—that they would only provide a 12-piece dark and 1 potato, which was not even close to what was promised. When I restated what “Danielle” had told me, the employee insisted that “no Danielle works here,” insinuating that I fabricated the entire conversation.
Public Humiliation
I was then placed on speaker with the “general manager” which she then told me that she could provide 12 piece dark and 1 potato, the general manager and employees continued to treat me as though I was attempting to get free food dishonestly. Their tones and accusations were loud enough for other customers to hear. As a result, another customer referred to me as a “Karen,” loudly and mockingly.
This was deeply embarrassing. I was made to feel like a dishonest, confrontational person when all I was doing was calmly trying to follow up on a promise given to me by their own staff.
I was simply standing there explaining the situation, yet I was portrayed—publicly—as someone causing trouble.
Emotional Impact
This experience has affected me more than it should have. I left the store:
• Humiliated
• Shaken
• Embarrassed in front of strangers
• Upset that my character was attacked
• Feeling completely dismissed and disrespected
No customer should leave an establishment feeling belittled or publicly shamed for trying to resolve an issue that originated from the restaurant in the first place.
Refusal to Identify Staff
When I asked the general and employee for their names six separate times, both refused. When I asked all employees present for the general manager’s name, every single one of them refused to provide it. This lack of transparency is unprofessional and concerning.
Summary
In total, I experienced:
• Incorrect and poorly prepared food
• A broken promise made by a manager
• Accusations that implied I was lying
• Public humiliation in front of other customers
• Staff and manger over the phone refusing to provide their names
• Disrespectful and unprofessional treatment
Requested Resolution
I am requesting:
• The full replacement that was promised to me by the manager identifying herself as “Danielle.”
• Accountability for the staff and manager who refused to identify themselves.
The rest of this review was sent to corporate.
Sincerely,
The batter is delicious, crunchy, not greasy. Something about the Shack’s fried chicken & those potatoes slathered in butter.
I ordered an extra roll today, but no butter cup to go with either role, no option to add to the order either. Anyone here have dinner rolls & not use butter? Yeah, I didn’t think so. It costs you pennies. You made a Jackson & traded me a half piece of chicken & an Idaho potato , just toss a butter in the bag.
Dinner was delicious, I would just say, if you’re gonna accept Door Dash orders, pack the bag. Condiments. A Fork? Napkins are always appreciated as well, just setting your bag down, leaves a grease ring. Thanks
Placed an online order at 9:30 am for a 12:50 pm pickup. I arrived just before 1 pm and the food was not ready until 1:20 pm. Staff was slow to come out to the front and greet, she was busy texting on her cellphone for most of the time I was waiting.
While waiting around I noticed how filthy the place is. Nothing has been wiped or degreased in the customer accessible area, I can only imagine the back.
The window sills were dirty with old dead bugs, the pop machine was dirty, sticky, moldy from top to bottom, the cooler was filthy, the credit card machine was full of old grease. The cook didn’t seem to be wearing a hair net.
Maybe the health department should check this place out?
Ughhh
I would highly recommend. 10 out of 10.
The best side is hands down the potatoes. Service was great, woman working counter was very friendly
