We got the #2 sampler with an extra rib. The chicken and ribs were on point. Beef and pork were good but didn’t compare to the chicken and ribs. Smoked chicken that’s juicy is hard to do and I was very impressed. The chili beans were also very good.

We came when the business first opened. Pork ribs were lightly smoked, but on the dry side. Similarly the 1/4 chicken was on the dry side. Smoke was good, but too dry for me. Service was fast since there were only 2 customers.

We stopped by Chicken in a Barrel in Kauai and were not disappointed! We had the chicken, pork ribs, and loaded fries with pork, and everything was fantastic. The meat was tender, smoky, and full of flavor – you can tell they put a lot of love into their BBQ. The atmosphere was laid-back and fun, perfect for enjoying a cold beer and some incredible food after a day of exploring the island. The prices were surprisingly reasonable, especially for Kauai. Highly recommend if you’re looking for some great island BBQ!

This experience was underwhelming. I ordered a portion of pulled beef for a little over $17 and I was handed a small container (for which I was charged extra for take out) and in it a smaller aluminum foil container which had the pulled beef. My jaw dropped and I almost went for a refund. The taste was good though, but the portion for the price definitely not worth it.
I later visited another location near by and they listed the same menu item for $2 cheaper.

Little spot off the highway serving up the best chicken on the island. Got the sampler plate with 1/4 chicken, 1 rib, pulled pork and pulled beef with a side of rice and beans. The chicken breast was cooked to perfection in an actual barrel, tender and smokey, not dry at all. The pulled beef could use a little salt but they do provide bbq sauce so I guess it’s OK. Chicken this good it’s a wonder why there were no line. They have 2 spots, one in kapa’a and the other in waimea. The kapa’a location was better.

The chicken really is the go-to dish here. Smoky, tender, juicy, with a skin that was respected in the smoker. The ribs were tender but not stand out, and the beef and pork and sides were meh. They’d run short of the beef and asked us if it would be okay to put more chicken in our combo and it was really the right choice! We got the combo but I’d go back for the chicken.
The service was great and the owner was really wonderful. Great service. And the atmosphere was lovely, laid back, open air. With a great view. We had on and off rain, but there was just enough cover for a comfortable stay. It was right next to the road, and a very short walk into town.
