Visiting Charlotte Convention and Chicken Box Cafe was near my hotel. Food was great. Associates were very friendly. Invited me back to karaoke in the evening. I returned. Everyone was very friendly. Even the owner gave me a tour. Really felt like I was part of the family. Praise the Lord!

September 30th 2025 at 630 pm, I got my order through uber eats. Thought I’d give this place a chance for redemption but they didn’t choose the ladder. Gizzards are bland and I paid for extra seasoning. Greens are okay. No condiments that I asked for on my order. It’s not hard to read people. It’s legal for us to do so now. I don’t mean to sound belligerent or rude but how many times must I receive sub par standards and quality as a paying customer. It’s bad enough it’s overpriced. It’s okay. My next step is to go on social media and deliver this same message for all to see. My goal is to gain quality and not overpriced blandness. So enjoy the customers you have for the moment because soon we will be decreasing due to your lack there of!!! And I’m gonna also post the negative reviews as well from google. I really hope I got your attention in thoughts you may improve. I don’t mind supporting my black businesses but you are robbing your customers. And it’s not just you at chicken box, but maybe you all can be among the first black owned restaurants to fix the major flaws you are having and make a solution to better customer service.
I ordered gizzard snack pack with greens and also pinto beans with rice. Gizzards not flavored and I even asked for them to add extra flavor. Pinto beans with rice was very bland. Only good thing actually was the collard greens. It was just too small of a portion. This place has fell off. If you want good soul food you are better off going to freshwater and sol delish. Those are the best in Charlotte. Mr. Charles comes second. But the rest of these so called soul food spots are trash.

This is by far the worst soul food in the city. The presentation is ok but the food taste like it’s made for a nursing home. The food is not seasoned at all the Mac-cheese is horrible. The tea/lemonade was the best thing I had.

It was an absolute delight to visit the Chicken Box Cafe and I will return when I fly CLT! Wide variety of menu items and plate options for any size appetite. This was some of the better fried chicken I have eaten anyplace, anytime. I look forward to trying the pork chops next time around. Collard Greens, Mac & Cheese, Fried Okra with cornbread for the sides. Numerous side options available that looked great. Being a basketball lover, it was cool to learn a little about Buckey too. I sincerely appreciate the hospitality!

My past experiences with this restsurant have been great (especially the smothered pork chops), but today was a serious disappointment.
The Turkey wings and rice seemed like they just opened a can of cream of chicken over the rice and that was their “gravy”. It was just ok.
The greens tasted like they poured a whole box of salt in them. I couldn’t eat them at all, which I feel like threw off my tastebuds for the rest of the meal.
The food is definitely not consistent from day to day.

The food wasn’t good at all but the service was great! But the food was trash. They must have new owners or new cook in the back. The macaroni and cheese was just brothy noodles. The green were completely flavorless. The cranberry sauce was the best thing and I know it was canned.

Owner was very friendly. The place was nice and clean. The atmosphere was wonderful. The entertainment was great the food well not that good … chicken looks good but very bland no seasoning collard greens also needed seasoning mac & cheese well got to do better for soul food. It’s a no for me but everything else was just wonderful. Let’s get the score up by improving the food oh, and drinks inexpensive great bartender, so will be coming back anyway because I had a really good time..

I drove 45 minutes just to get the pigfeet plate and it didn’t disappoint. It was worth my trafficy drive! The stuffing with gravy and cabbage was on point as well. They gave me more pigfeet this time which made it worth $18
