We had an absolutely wonderful dinner here. Every dish was beautifully presented and full of authentic French flavours.

The duck breast of the day was perfectly cooked — tender, juicy, and paired with a rich, smooth sauce. The duck confit was crispy on the outside and meltingly soft inside, exactly how a classic confit should be.

The steak tartare was fresh, well-seasoned, and balanced, with the egg yolk adding a silky texture. The escargots were fragrant and garlicky, and the fresh oysters were incredibly clean and briny.

Service was warm, attentive, and knowledgeable — the staff made us feel genuinely welcome and well looked after.
A fantastic spot for anyone who loves real French cuisine. We’ll definitely be back!

Had the most outstanding Valentine’s group dinner last night. Absolutely incredible set menu. My faves were the salmon tartare and the duck breast. My friend had the barramundi with purple cauliflower puree which was incredible too! I also dine at Chez Olivier from time to time and highly recommend the canard confit, mushroom veloute, boeuf bourgignon, entrecôte and the crème brûlée – hands down best in Melbourne.

We had a delightful dinner at Chez Olivier. The restaurant was unexpectedly busy for a Sunday evening, but we still received attentive, friendly service and the food was of the highest quality. We came without a reservation and took seats at the bar, which we really enjoyed. We had the beetroot salad, salmon, and beef pie—everything was divine. They also have a great selection of French wines. We would happily return. Thank you!

First time was a total hit: un vrai parfum de France. Delicious food, wine. Magret was cooked to perfection. Trio du chef for dessert was quite a treat !!

Second visit though was a bit disapointing. Overall, the experience at our table was good. We were four French guests celebrating a special occasion.

Entrées were very enjoyable: the Soupe à l’Oignon, Gambas au Pernod, and Moules were all well executed. Desserts were a unanimous highlight—the Trio du Chef was outstanding and truly delicious.

Mains were more mixed. Two guests ordered the fish of the day (Barramundi) and were very happy with it. The other two chose duck. Unfortunately, the Canard à l’Orange was overcooked, and the in-house duck confit was disappointing—dry and not quite the confit we are used to.

Overall, most guests were happy, but the duck dishes let the meal down slightly. Service, however, was excellent throughout.

I had a deal which included a glass of wine, the duck in orange sauce & 2 mini desserts (choc mousse & creme brûlée). The duck was a big portion, thigh cooked to perfection but breast slightly overdone. The sauce was tasty but a bit too sweet for my liking. Desserts and wine were great. Service was okay – though I was sat at the bar and it was busy. Overall, good food, great deal when it’s on too.

The entrees (VELOUTÉ DE CHAMPIGNONS and BISQUE DE HOMARD) were very salty. My main (steak) was chargrilled so occasionally the bites were quite bitter. The dessert (TARTE TATIN) was very sweet. We were happy with the other main (TARTE TATIN DE BETTERAVES). The red wine came with the steak was ok too.

Absolutely outstanding french cuisine. Better than I had tried in France. Authentic service and ambience – not over the top but still elegant and comfortable.

Chez Olivier transported me straight back to France — every detail felt authentic, from the exquisite flavours to the warm, intimate ambience.
Our lovely French waitress, with her charming accent, added a touch of Parisian magic. A truly enchanting slice of Paris in Melbourne.

We had a really lovely meal here. We started with snails and oysters and both were beautifully prepared and full of classic French flavour. For mains, the barramundi and duck were both exceptional, rich and satisfying without being too heavy. The crème brûlée was a standout way to finish, perfectly creamy with a crisp caramelised top. The menu here delivers traditional French cooking done superbly well, with comforting, generous dishes that feel authentic and indulgent. It’s a great spot if you’re looking for quality food and classic flavours.
