Let me start this review by saying that I’ve eaten at Chez Ali several times. I’ve enjoyed Jerk chicken and Curry chicken. Both flavorful with good ol Jamaican spices and a hint of smoke. I love that.
Guess that explains why I’ve eaten there several times. My complaint, tho ( and I’ve actually hesitated to complain because I like the food), is the very inconsistent meat portions.
If you look at my plate below, at a glance, you’d swear it was piled high with meat.
In reality, it’s mostly rice, rice, and more rice.
The meat is basically leg quarters chopped till you can’t chop them anymore. When I gathered up the choppy meat chunks, I didn’t even have two legs in my Jerk chicken plate.
The Curry and Jerk combo plate had probably two chunks more.
By NO MEANS, am I saying the food isn’t tasty. I am saying they have skimped on the meat 95% of the times I’ve eaten there.
Customer Service is hit or miss also. A couple folks seem kinda friendly. I just wish those things would change. The experience would be better and worth the price.

Very tasty Afro-Caribbean cuisine inside The Foundry. The jerk chicken had so much flavor. I got the sampler which included jerk chicken and curry chicken, cabbage, and white rice or brown rice and beans. The oxtails and plantains looked good too. I’ll definitely be back to try more.

Hands down the best carribean food in STL, hidden gem inside the foundry! Also our favorite stall in the foundry (we tried almost every place).
The portion is huge and beyond flavorful. The Jerk chicken isn’t dry and the sauce is just right. The curry chicken melts in your mouth and has a good kick but not too spicy! For the portion and taste it’s definitely worth the price. Also very kind workers. We’ll be back!

I’ve bought the food a few times. But today’s food wasn’t it at all. The rice and “beans” barely had any beans and the rice was sticky and weird. The curry was tasteless and I wasn’t given any potatoes or veggies apart from celery, very poor quality today compared to what I’ve had before.
I’ve observed that the taste of the food varies depending on the day. If this was my first time going there, I’d probably never go back again

First time in the foundry, wasn’t really hungry but at the back of the food court I saw this place with nobody in the line & figured I’d give it a go . Got the oxtails with red beans & cabbage it was all pretty good first time trying any of it . The female worker was really nice & she loaded my plate up with a large portion . Overall a solid choice of restaurant especially if you want some African cuisine .

Lots of food & decently priced! Is has the chicken sampler which was $17. It came with Yassa chicken (lemon pepper & Dijon flavors), curry chicken, jerk chicken, cabbage, and rice. It was good & I’ll definitely be back.

Service and atmosphere were fine but not remarkable. Do not recommend eating here; bland (how can you make a curry dish bland?!), dry, overcooked, underprepared (I had a half of a potato in my curry chicken…didn’t bother to even diced their ingredients), over priced food. Personally offended by my meal.

Flavors were excellent, no denying that, BUT, there were dozens of chicken bone shards throughout our dishes and multiple pieces of chicken still had feathers on them, so we were unable to actually eat our meals. I’m sure some folks enjoy the extra challenge, but that was the most painful and nearly tooth-cracking meal we have ever had. I talked with the young woman at the counter and she was “politely” dismissive about my concerns without resolving the issue. See photos of bones meticulously picked out of rice and sauce and some of the chicken feathers. We spent more time avoiding bones than eating, and threw away most of our meals. A refund or offer to remake on a future date after making a new batch with better quality control was all I was asking for, but that didn’t happen.
Also, there were no dividers in the styrofoam container, so all the cabbage, chicken, sauce, and beans & rice blended together into one mess. While still good flavors mixed up, it would have been nice to actually try the individual components separately.
0 stars for quality/safety/enjoyability of food, slopping food together, and refusal to resolve the problem.

Chez Ali’s Yassa chicken is the best bite I’ve had in St Louis. Every time I visit, I’m blown away. It’s so tasty, so consistently excellent. Red beans and rice, jerk chicken, samosas, and plantains are all amazing too.
