In the cantina the bartender was also the wait staff for the tables which became problematic as it caused a wait for those of us sitting at tables/the small booths around the restaurant.
I ordered a margarita & the happy hour carne asada fries. When I received my order I realized they were tots not fries so I was confused. I hate to wait over 10 minutes for my server to come back over and asked him about it. He said they were out of fries so he hoped I didn’t mind they did tots. If you don’t have fries shouldn’t you tell the patron who’s paying for fries to make sure the switch is ok? In my case it was not because I do not like tots so he sent it back. The food was also lukewarm with big slices of 1 bell pepper on top and some onion, not uniform in any way for such a small serving dish. I asked to order to carne asada pizza and they said they couldn’t make it because they didn’t have the stuff for it.
I did like the carne asada on the tots so I ordered the carne asada street tacos and was disappointed. The tacos were cold, had a lot of fat on the meat, and were not proportioned right to the shells. After already being disappointed I just ate the meat that didn’t have a lot of fat and left the rest of the taco shell.
Regarding service it was an issue to have bartenders also be the wait staff at the bar. Not only are they taking care of customers seated at the bar but making everyone’s drinks including patrons outside. I believe that contributed to the problem of me getting cold food as it was probably sitting there because the bartenders hardly left the bar. Once I received my food I was waiter for my waiter and didn’t see him. After waiting for my check for over 15 minutes I had to walk to the bar to ask for my check. The lone bartender also looked around for my waiter and couldn’t find him. When she walked me back to see what table I was at through the window in the wall we saw him sitting and chatting with another server. This is completely unacceptable. I was unable to order another drink and had to wait over 25 minutes to actually pay my bill because my server walked off to go socialize while not even on break.
I will not be coming back and would not recommend this place.
We had hair in our salsa.
Our server moved very slow.
I got the appetizer platter and not a single thing on the platter looked like the photo on the menu nor did it taste good.
My sister got the birria taco which were also not great.
Then to top things off the server stole money from my sister’s card. Charged her extra on the tip after being tipped by me and by my sister in cash. My sister had to call and speak to the GM.
Horrible food, horrible service, cute atmosphere though.
My daughter and I approached the hostess stand simply hoping for a pleasant evening and a table outside. There were at least seven other families already seated outdoors, so it seemed like a reasonable request. Instead, we stood there for nearly ten minutes waiting for someone to seat us.
When someone finally came over, we were met by a very surly hostess who immediately asked whether we wanted a booth or a table. I politely explained that we’d prefer to sit outside. Without any explanation, courtesy, or attempt at hospitality, she bluntly told us they were not seating people outside. When I pointed out that several families were already seated there, she curtly responded, “Well, we aren’t seating anymore,” and then dismissively asked if I wanted to “change my mind.”
The tone was rude, the attitude was unwelcoming, and the complete lack of basic customer service was astonishing. There was no apology, no explanation, and certainly no effort to accommodate or even politely clarify the situation.
Rather than spend money somewhere that treats guests like an inconvenience, we chose to leave. There are too many restaurants that value their customers to waste time at one that clearly does not.
Needless to say, I will not be returning.
