All the way back in 1955, the four sons of an immigrant millworker decided to take a chance. They opened a restaurant on Cumberland’s bustling Mendon Road with nothing to their names other than a shared dream and vision – fresh and local ingredients, prompt and friendly service, all to be had at an unbeatable value. While times change, our values don’t. As a third generation, family owned and operated company, our food is still made fresh in our commissary 7 days a week and delivered to each of our locations daily . Same ingredients, same recipes, same classic food that Rhode Islanders have come to know and love since our grandfathers first opened our doors nearly 70 years ago!

Came in for lunch, and had the Big Roast Beef sandwich, the Buffalo Mc and Cheese and the French Onion Soup. The soup was good, the sandwich was great. The Mac and Cheese was… not terrible, but it did not seem to be Mac and cheese, and the chicken was very, very slightly Buffalo. There was pretty much dry pasta, with breadcrumbs, and sliced up breaded chicken that did not look or taste like Buffalo. The whole thing still tasted OK, but the whole thing was very, very dry.

An enjoyable experience reasonably priced with good service and food. Our favorites were the clam cakes and the clam chowder, I ordered a burger well done, and it was perfectly cooked all the way through and juicy very few places manage that.

We love it here. They always have a great variety, changes seasonally and a great lobster roll Their extra large lobster roll is HUGE Also, the BEST seafood chowder and regular chowder. They’ve won multiple awards! Their desserts are great!! I’d highly recommend them even getting them for parties at home, everyone likes them, especially their chocolate cake!

Whew.. driven by a few of these restaurants over the years but never tried it. Stopped in with the family one Sunday afternoon a few weeks ago and started to regret my decision as we were being seated. Dumpy table and interior, rundown dining room. The steak tip diner was nasty. Stone cold broccoli side. The Cesar salad was large, crisp but really had salty tasteless dressing. The added grilled chicken was dried out and tasted old.
All said it wasn’t a good experience that I will not be repeating. BTW. The waitress was nice. Friendly and tried her best.

We love to sit at the bar, and the bartenders are unbelievable busy, but stay right on top of everything! I had the most delicious steak (not shaved, either a small delmonico or rib eye) with mushrooms and cheese and ordered fried eggplant as my side ( trying to eat something a little healthy) and hubby had a Reuben sandwich with a side salad. Everything was delicious and cooked to our liking. It was great!

Always easy to get in and out. The food is great for the price. They offer daily specials. If the restaurant is full, it’s loud. Otherwise, it’s average with the noise. One side of the restaurant is a full bar with food service. They do take out as well.

started with clam cakes and chowder, potato skins.
potatoes in chowder weren’t cooked all the way and were hard, soup was warm,
clam cakes, the best I’ve ever had, and I’ve been eating and making them most of my life.
potatoes skins needed seasoning, and way to much potato inside, they were not skins,
crazy chicken salad, was great.
no table visit by a manager, and there weren’t very busy

I love Chelo’s! This is a fabulous location. I work close by and grab take out for lunch and the take out staff are amazing! I also frequent the Cranston location frequently with my Babe.
