Chef Yan 川府人家 is a family-friendly restaurant at Fair City Mall in Fairfax, serving authentic Sichuan cuisine with generous portions at reasonable prices. The service was efficient, with quick ordering, fast food delivery, and attentive staff. We were satisfied with our choices, especially the roasted crispy duck and braised pork belly. The interior was clean and decorated with Chinese elements, such as paintings, red knots hanging from the walls, and Chinese lanterns. Overall, the food was delicious without being too salty, though some dishes contained excess MSG, which left a lingering aftertaste and prompted us to drink plenty of water afterward.

Amazing fresh and authentic food. The service here is amazing. My husband and I were sat immediately and given our hot tea and waters in less than two minutes. Our meals came out fast and super fresh and hot. I love the chicken corn soup here. I had some leftover soup and the staff helped me pack it up which I thought was very kind. The food here is delicious and I will definitely be back!

I hadn’t been here for about a year and finally came back to Chef Yan (川府人家). The food was great as always, but the real surprise was a hidden dish the server recommended: Shao Jiao Tofu Beef. It’s not on the menu, but you can ask for it. The roasted pepper flavor is amazing, slightly sour and spicy, and the tofu is super soft and silky. Honestly one of the most comforting, rice-killer dishes I’ve had in a while. Highly recommend asking for it!

The food here was absolutely phenomenal!! As a Singaporean kid who grew up in mountain this range and on the south side of the Malaysian peninsulas this was a slice of home that I feel that I was not able to get anywhere else within the DMV area!!
On top of that, the exquisite experiences that I was able to be provided by the amazing awesome and attentive employees with absolutely top-notch
Coming here was like the equivalent of me going back home to my mom and dad‘s house! It was an absolute delight of being able to talk to them with them and communicate with them and be also able to have a candidate conversation about my childhood!!

Wanted to like this place more since it looks really authentic. There are two menus, one with more American style options and the other with traditional Chinese dishes.
My biggest issue was that in asking staff for recommendations off the traditional menu they didn’t seem to be interested in helping and just pointed me to the regular menu. We also ordered soup dumplings and got steamed and when we pointed it out they just nodded and walked away.
The food itself was pretty good, but I ordered spicy and it was anything but. Serving sizes were great and I’d love to give this place another try and hopefully have a better experience next time.

If you’re looking for authentic Chinese food, this is the place. A variety of dishes all very well made. Would recommend if you’re looking for something more traditional than your average take out Chinese food. Everything was reasonably priced and service was quick and friendly.

Speaking of CHEFYAN restaurant, I have a deep connection with it. Ever since I first discovered it about 19 years ago, I was incredibly excited. That’s because the Chinese food here is authentically delicious and genuine. Especially noteworthy is how, despite having several different owners over the years, it has consistently remained unforgettable for its authentic Sichuan cuisine.
Particularly last year, in 2024, the restaurant underwent a comprehensive upgrade, and the new interior decor is completely refreshed. Adding to this, the owner is also the head chef in the kitchen. The Sichuan dishes have been elevated with exciting new additions, thoughtfully adapting to the seasons by introducing 4 to 5 different seasonal specials each time, which are always a delightful surprise. The flavors remain deeply satisfying, true to authentic Chinese cuisine.
Special praise goes to Ms. Elena, the restaurant manager, for her meticulous introductions to customers, professional recommendations, and careful communication with the kitchen chefs – all dedicated to perfectly meeting every unique customer request. (Because every time I order, I have specific requests for spice levels and often other unique needs). I am truly grateful to have encountered such an excellent restaurant Chef Yan and the manager, conscientious servers, and such highly skilled, top-tier chefs who bring authentic Chinese cuisine to our area.
Our whole family loves this restaurant dearly and we want to share it with our friends. We also sincerely wish for this restaurant to expand the influence of Chinese cuisine in the capital region, promoting the culture of Chinese culinary arts and hopefully opening more locations 我爱中国菜

Oh you GOTTA go here. Authentic, friendly, very fast and incredible quality. Lots of options, including many vegetarian dishes. The restaurant itself is very well designed and decorated, bright and clean. Everyone working there was great, and again, the food is amazing.
