You have to look for this, it is in a strip mall situated in front of the Walmart across from the new Super Kroger and the Premium Outlet mall. There is an iHop in the same lot along with a Verizon store. It is definitely worth looking for when you visit Dawsonville.
Upon entering we were greeted by our waiter who was friendly and invited us to sit anywhere we chose. The dining area was very clean with typical decor for a walk-in Thai or Asian restaurant. There was only one other occupied table and during our time dining two other table arrived. Our waiter provided menu’s and asked about our drink order as we sat.
Our waiter was attentive and never let our glasses empty. He was friendly but not obtrusive. He did not offer any selections but took our order promptly and provided good service.
We decided to share our meal since we normally bring home a full meal when dining at most Thai restaurants. We ordered an appetizer of Calamari and it was absolutely delicious. It was lightly breaded and seasoned and served hot and was not oily or greasy at all. Very light. It is served with a Garlic Chili Sauce. The sauce was very good but neither of us tasted any garlic hint but thought it was sweet but complemented the Calamari well.
For our entree we chose the Pad Thai with Chicken and asked for Medium spice level since many of the Thai restaurants we patronize can be very spicy at that level if they don’t use a numeric scale to base their heat. It was a good size portion and we both were fully satisfied. The meal was decent but neither of us tasted any heat at all. It was much sweeter than we are accustomed to and almost too sweet for our particular taste. The sweetness of the dish overpowered and masked any spice or heat.
We will definitely return to Chef Tommy and on our next visit we will ask if they can cut the sweetness level to a third and ask for hot on the spice/heat level.
I especially liked the fresh herbs used in the curry and variety of veggies. There was a fresh herb on top of the curry and I’m not sure if that’s usual but it was good. I liked the cut of bamboo shoot they used too… Rather than the typical sticks these were more like chips. And thank goodness it wasn’t overloaded with bamboo shoot… Many places use too much, I think. Nicely sized chunks of bell pepper, broccoli, mushroom, green beans, and onion were in there too, since I ordered the vegitable.
