Reviews
Sauce for steak was served in a tiny 2 divider sauce dish. Both sauces lacked flavour and hardly enough of either.
As one of the other comments said the best thing at the restaurant is the bread. Nothing else was good including our pesto pasta too.
INCREDIBLY overpriced. So many other good steak places for cheaper.
Not sure how this has such high ratings.
I came here once for a haircut upstairs in this same alley and it was the worst haircut of my life. I’m never coming back to this alley way.
Can’t recommend to come here for French or western food again.
Overall, a hidden place that really should stay hidden
One of the highlights was the foie gras, rich, perfectly seared, and balanced with fresh fruit and a light sauce. Dessert did not disappoint either. We enjoyed the caramelised banana flambee with ice cream. Even the bread was warm and fragrant, perfect with a little butter.
The atmosphere was cosy and the service was attentive without feeling rushed. You can really taste the passion Chef Thien puts into every dish. A lovely spot for anyone who appreciates thoughtful French-inspired cooking in the city. We left satisfied and will definitely be back.
Reasonably priced for comparative French food in other Saigon restaurants. (French food tends to be pricey in this city).
Quality of food varied.
I liked the foie gras very much.
I’m not a big salad fan and the serving here was OK if a little boring.
Japanese scallops tasted good. Wish they were a tad larger.
The steak was a little bland for my taste and the rib eye cut was a little chewy.
The seafood pasta was made with fresh in-house pasta. Had good bite if lacking a little “bounce” to the dough. The flavour of the tomato based sauce was really delicious.
The star of the day for me was in fact the humble French onion soup. Perhaps it was because I haven’t had a serve for a long while but I really liked the flavours here and even the melted cheese on a toasted slice of baguette tasted really yummy.
Friends and I shared a bottle of red that was also fairly good compared to the usual quality vs price that is the norm in Saigon.
I liked the ambience of this small restaurant down an alley way. Will likely return.
However, when I placed my order, I was not told that the sea bass was unavailable and that duck was being served instead.
Later, I heard another customer being informed of this.
I really like duck, so I would have chosen it if I had known. It was disappointing not to be informed at the time of ordering.
Overall, the food was very good.
It was raining heavily outside when we were about to leave so we stayed at the restaurant after, and the restaurant kindly treated us with tea, on the house
Pleasant experience here, I’ll definitely come back if i have a chance.
Appetisers:
•Complementary olive bread, came with butter – this was good, a little too dense for my liking, but the rest enjoyed their bread.
•French onion soup – i’d caution against getting this, it didn’t have the Onion Caramelised taste that a french onion soup should have. A little disappointing.
•Mushroom soup – thick and creamy.
•Pumpkin soup – if you’re not a fan of Cinnamon, you can avoid this option, the Cinnamon taste is quite strong.
Mains:
•Duck confit – it was very tender, enjoyed the pumpkin mash that accompanied the duck meat really well.
•Chicken breast served with Mushroom sauce and Sauteed vegetables – this was good, chicken breast was cooked well, tasted closer to chicken thigh, it was that tender.
•Pasta – we ordered the tomato and carbonara base pastas, they were both hand-made (I believe so).
•Beef & potato wedges – seasoned well, enjoyed this and wished there was more (set meal served food sizes that were really small).
Desserts:
•Frozen cheesecake served with berries – honestly thought that this would be a typical frozen cheesecake kind of thing, but it was surprisingly good. It was light-tasting and the biscuits at the bottom were not too buttery/oily.
•Creme brulee – grateful that it wasn’t overly sweet, top was nicely torched.
