The entrance makes the place feel smaller than it actually is. Everything is well laid out and the staff is very attentive. Since I came alone without a reservation, I sat at the bar. Service was quick and my signature pho arrived almost immediately. Water and green tea to drink, and mochi ice cream for dessert. Everything was well executed, though not particularly outstanding. I’d come back.

To start, I love the Chef Papa location in Flushing, it’s my go-to spot for Vietnamese food. So when I saw the LIC location had opened with such positive reviews, I was excited to give it a try.

As two people, we ordered truffle fries, the signature pho, pork chops over rice, and a daily special of pork belly bao buns.

I’ll start with the good: the ambiance is nice, the staff were friendly and attentive, the bathrooms were clean, and the fries were crispy and tasty.

Now the bad. The pork belly bao buns would have been good, but the buns were so stale they broke apart while eating, ruining the entire plate. The pho was smaller than the Flushing location and nowhere near as flavorful. The pork chops were dry as well, saved only by the nước chấm. And I’m not a fan of restaurants that make 20% the lowest default tip option.

Overall, I was disappointed. The food is not up to par with the Flushing location and isn’t worth the price point. You’re better off going to Flushing, or skipping Chef Papa LIC entirely.

As a native Vietnamese and grown up in hospitality industry, I am always looking for the Vietnamese gem. It’s still not the case here.

The staff is really friendly, welcoming and caring. The atmosphere is nice and light. The music is not too loud which is great.

For the dinner I tried the Nem nuong (grilled pork skewers), Banh khot (mini savory pancakes) and the Chao tom (sugar cane shrimp). I was a little bit disappointed by the cuisine. In general, I was expecting more fresh herbs and salad as in Vietnam we eat those dishes with a lot of herbs. Just few mint leaves ? The pork skewers were original with the shape but a little bit too dry. The shrimp skewers were surprising as they made them with dried shrimp. It was the first time I saw this recipe. They were somehow too skinny but as an appetizer it is fine. And the pancakes were ok for the taste but a little bit too greasy.

Bathrooms were clean.

Happy to have been here but will probably not come back. Especially I don’t live in the area.

Perfect for date night. Good drinks beautiful atmosphere.(Long Island City location) But the food here is the star of the show. The shrimp and pork egg rolls were delicious. The calamari was exceptional and I do not like calamari usually but I like this one. The signature pho was absolutely delicious rich and flavorful broth. I brought my girlfriend here for Valentine’s Day and they didn’t disappoint. My girlfriend had the grilled pork over rice and she loved it as well. I will be back to try to lemongrass chicken and more pho.

Chef Papa is my favorite Viet spot in LIC!

I visited back in July and had the crispiest and well flavored calamari along with cocktails and pork chop vermicelli and other dishes with my friend. I loved this spot so much that since that first visit, I’ve ordered delivery to even a few blocks away, and hosted parties with their food! (Sometimes I order multiple portions of calamari just to snack on ) Their back area seating is a stunning sun room and was a great spot to catch up and chat. Nothing beats good food with good chats with a great ambiance!

It’s sad to see an honestly delicious mom and pop restaurant face defamation by self proclaimed influencers displaying clear micro aggressions against certain ethnic foods, and I hope anyone who sees this review gives this place a try before believing an influencer trying to get out of a dinner bill.

I absolutely love this place and will continue to come back and continue to order from them!

My boyfriend and I are huge lovers of Vietnamese food, as it’s what literally brought us together. For our first little trip to Long Island City from Westchester County, it was worth it! The restaurant is very spacious and beautiful. Staff were very kind and the food came out quick. The summer rolls were fresh, and the phos and ingredients were delicious!

Unexpectedly charming spot with a very cozy vibe inside. From the tiny entrance, you’d never guess how pleasant the interior is once you step in. The space is aesthetically pleasing, well laid out, and comfortable, with thoughtful spacing and a relaxed atmosphere. There’s also a bar.

The staff is genuinely friendly—smiling, attentive, and efficient without being overbearing.

I ordered the crispy shrimp spring rolls as an appetizer, chicken curry noodle soup, and jasmine tea. The food was good but nothing memorable—solid flavors, no complaints, just not standout.

Prices aren’t cheap and feel slightly above what the food justifies. That said, I’d return mainly for the ambiance and overall vibe rather than the cuisine itself.

Love the Flushing location so had to give this one a try. The inside is so much bigger than anticipated. Enjoyed the Hot Vietnamese Coffee. The iced version comes in a very thin glass with tons of ice. Their Signature Pho is the way to go. If you are into espresso martinis definitely order them especially if you are in luck dining during their happy hour. The mango sticky rice was also pretty good. Besides being pricer in comparison to the Flushing location this spot was delicious.

The food was great! It was a nice intimate spot for 3 people upstairs. We stayed for 3 hours and they were so kind to us.

Appetizers:
-Crispy spring roll (not photographed) fresh summer roll with fried spring roll inside
-salt and pepper squid. This was delicious! The squid was so soft I thought it was shrimp. The coating reminds me of tempura.
-steamed rice cake (bánh bèo). Omg this was my fave! Sweet and salty. The flavor was so complex. I can’t even explain it.

Main course:
-Bun Bo hue: spicy beef stew. The meat was so tender.
-seafood pho: absolutely delicious. The broth has a nice anise taste.
-wagyu pho: the beef literally melted in your mouth. So worth it!

Dessert:
-fried banana ice cream. Just amazing!
-chè ba màu: tricolor. Coconut milk over pandan jelly and red beans and mung beans. soooooo good!!!! I want more!
-mango sticky rice. Not too sweet and perfect. Not photographed.

This is such a hidden gem !! The pho broth is so rich in flavor. You can taste the depth in the broth. The chicken pho literally melted my soul in the cold weather and the chicken itself was so moist and tender. I loved it.
