We have operated the family business in the original location of Kuykendahl back in 1982 and the second location in Grogan’s Mill Shopping Center back in 1997. My grandfather, the original chef, was originally from New York. The restaurant in midtown New York was given 4 stars by food critic Raymond Sokolov in 1981. Moving to Spring in 1982, my grand-father was further given accolades by the then food critic Nancylee Lyles with The Houston Post and anony

Always a staple, sesame chicken is always heaven, crab puffs always delectable, but what happened to the lo mein noodles? They used to be these little squiggly above al dente flavorful masterpieces. Now they’re these weird flat kinda soggy strings of disappointment.thats the only reason I gave 3 stars, which I know seems petty, but seriously the noodles were everything and more: Please bring back the old masterpiece. I lived for those noodles.

Just ate at Chef Chan’s with our family. We just went on wim, been looking for Chinese food since moving to the woodlands. It was so so good, fresh , flavorful, not salty, authentic Chinese. The service was quick and friendly. Very attentive and even put the game on for us. It’s not big, but just big enough. We are big foodies and it did not disappoint. Will be our new Chinese food spot for now on.

Ordered here for the first time via Door dash 12/31/25 for NYE dinner. Our order was a shared order of fried vegetable spring roll,1 – regular Crispy Orange Beef with fried rice & Hot & Sour soup and 1 – extra spicy Mongolian Beef with fried rice & egg drop soup. Everything was hot & looked good however the Crispy Orange Beef wasn’t at all crispy and the beef was very chewy and stringy. Overdll though, it wasn’t bad. The extra spicy Mongolian Beef wasn’t vspicy but it was VERY salty and the meat was very fatty with both conditions making it inedible.

This place has some of the best Chinese food I tasted. Traveled the nation, and this one takes 1st place. Not just about the food, but the service is amazing, and the ambiance is warm and relaxed. Wonderful people with exceptional service. Pictured * Beef Broccoli and orange chicken, beef is tender and full of flavor. The place is a must-try, so stop by if you’re around the area and craving some Chinese food.

Excellent quality food, generous portions (enough to take home for another meal! Even on lunch menu!). Attentive, polite service. Very reasonable prices. Nice simple atmosphere. Not sure how you could improve on this if you’re in the mood for Chinese food.

Lunch menu. General Tso chicken. Sauce taste was good but the chicken was barely warm, as was the rice. And the egg roll was cold. Accompanied by the smallest bowl of soup I’ve ever had at a Chinese restaurant. But would say the soup tasted good. Just small. Mentioned this review to staff and they were totally indifferent. Went and bought a sandwich a few shops down and was disappointed enough I came back and showed them that I had to go and buy another lunch. Avoid. And $3 for a can of Diet Coke … seriously?

Great service! As usual, I called about food with sesame oil/seeds. Their recipes do include it but he assured me that if I requested no sesame oil/seeds they would use clean utensils and pans to make my food. So, we dined there. I did my usual disinfecting of seats, table, and condiments. My dinner companions were so kind to ask for no sesame oil/seeds, also!! As promised, we enjoyed our meals sans sesame seeds. The food was outstanding. Hearty servings. They included an extra serving of rice in my leftover box, too!! The place was very clean and roomy between tables. It’s nicely and tastefully decorated. Wide entrance, but not automatic

What happened? It’s been a while since we ordered and everything has changed. The orange chicken is NOT the same orange chicken as the original that we have been ordering since 1998, it’s sweeter, chunks of orange, few chilies, and chicken is not as crispy, no more curry wonton in the “complete your dinner” add-on, egg rolls are now like every other Chinese restaurant and not as good (or as crispy as the original), beef and broccoli was underwhelming and also changed and the fortune cookies were all stale. For what you now charge and calling yourself The Original when you clearly are not is shameful. Go back to the original recipes. I gave two stars because the service is great and the food was piping hot all the way home.

Chef Chan’s The Original has the Finest Chinese Cuisine in The Woodlands.

Having lived in Houston previously, I visted Chef Chan’s very often. Upon returning to Houston after many years, I was disappointed to discover that the Chef Chan’s that I used to visit ( in Grogan’s Mill Village Center) had changed ownership.

Nevertheless, discovering that the original owner had launched a new venture, “Chef Chan’s the Original,” filled me with joy.

Returning to the restaurant and meeting the original owner evoked a flood of cherished memories, and I was thrilled to learn that it retained its original recipes while upholding its unwavering standards of excellence and cleanliness.

Among my favorite dishes are the Spicy Scallops, Eggplant with Garlic Sauce, and Spicy Green Beans. My vegetarian friends particularly enjoyed the latter two dishes.
