I love Chaskaa and was looking forward to returning with a friend for a birthday meal. The menu is unusual and varied, with traditional and different dishes you won’t find anywhere else.

We were warmly greeted on arrival and served a small glass of warming spiced tomato and coriander soup as an appetizer before ordering drinks and starters. It was unusual and delicious, which set the scene for another great night and meal.

I opted for poppadoms and a pickle tray, while my friend chose onion bhajis with a spicy tomato dip and salad. I wish I’d chosen that – it looked delicious and was as tasty as it looked, according to my friend.

I’ve had the lamb karahi with pilau rice and chilli garlic king prawn curries before, which I’ve enjoyed (although the latter dish was too hot for me). This time, I went for the chicken tikka shashlik, described as chicken tikka breast marinated in yogurt with specially selected spices, garlic and herbs, barbecued in a clay oven, served with bell pepper, onion, tomatoes, salad, curry sauce and rice.

It’s not a dish I’d usually pick, but I was swayed by a friend’s suggestion from looking at the menu and it was an absolute showstopper. Bursting with flavour, perfectly balanced and beautifully cooked, it ranks as one of the best meals I’ve ever had.

Portions are generous, the food is fresh and beautifully presented and the service is flawless. Prices are reasonable for a city-centre restaurant, and it’s somewhere you could easily pop in alone to enjoy a meal in relaxed surroundings.

Chaskaa is a real credit to Edinburgh’s restaurant scene and deserves support.

Highly recommended.

We visited Chaskaa Indian Restaurant during Valentine’s weekend and from the moment we arrived it felt special. We were seated at a lovely table decorated with balloons which was a really nice touch and set the tone for the evening.

The menu looked fantastic and after much deliberation we went for the Lamb Haggis Pakora and Chicken 65 to start. Both were outstanding. The haggis… wow. Absolutely superb. And the Chicken 65 easily met the very high benchmark set by our daughter’s mother-in-law’s homemade version — no small compliment!

For mains we chose the Karahi and Monkfish Tikka. I rarely say this, but the monkfish tikka was exceptional. Perfectly cooked, full of flavour and genuinely one of the best I’ve had. The karahi delivered exactly what you want from a classic — rich, comforting and beautifully spiced.

Service was great throughout — attentive without being intrusive — and the atmosphere had that perfect Valentine’s weekend buzz.

It’s definitely made our trip to Edinburgh even more memorable. We’ll be back

We were visiting Edinburgh in a group of 8 people 6 adults and 2 kids. They managed the group really well. I really liked the welcome drinks kind of tomato flavour hot drinks. Everybody liked other than kids. Comfortable seating -cushioned chairs. Overall service was good other than one day mixed up couple of drinks. Food, everything was really delicious the lamb the chicken and we have a couple of vegetarian friends so paneer and daal were really good. I highly recommend to go and enjoy the food. We didn’t reserve.

Highly recommended for the vibe and lovely service, the best authentic Indian food i’ve had recently. The service was great and he also made changes according to our taste. We were also offered a very delicious complementary tomato soup the moment we sat down on our reserved table.

I have stayed in the UK for 3 years and had food at lots of Indian restaurants but this is the first place to offer any welcome soup/food.

I stopped here for lunch at a friend’s recommendation. It happened to be Diwali and so I had the holiday special. The food and mocktail that came with it were phenomenal. In particular, the special came with biryani and it was the best I’ve ever had, though the gobi was also great. The atmosphere was extremely relaxing and my server Raj really went above and beyond to make the meal extra enjoyable. Overall, I would absolutely recommend this restaurant.

First time having dinner here and it was to us an exceptionally scrumptious meal with palate-teasing flavours be it the paneer, monk fish, chicken or the creamy sauce. The samosa we have to say was better than that served at Dishoom we had in London. Great service and value for money as well.
