First I would like to comment that my family has enjoyed Charlie Brown’s for many years. A few years ago quite a few of the Charlie Brown’s restaurants closed leaving just a few in the area. Probably from poor corporate management, because the restaurants we visited were always busy with customers. Now of the few that are left the quality has gone down tremendously.
This Charlie Brown’s in Old Tappan is just holding on and we won’t visit again anytime soon. We were greeted at 7:30 pm on a Saturday by two hostesses. 15 minute wait they said for an inside or outside table. The three of us looked around and saw plenty of empty tables, that should have been our key to leave. 55 minutes later we finally got a table. The restaurant was short on staff and they couldn’t seat us not because there wasn’t a table but because they didn’t have enough wait staff.
Our waitress did the best she could do. I will say the salad bar was well stocked and clean. The floor was horrible. Our table was on a carpet section wasn’t clean and the floor around the salad bar was dirty and sticky.
Our food came out and again we were disappointed. The presentation was awful. The quality was awful. I had two bacon wrapped fillets. Not cooked properly then bacon was white and soggy and somehow the fillet was overcooked. This is a steakhouse and they didn’t get it right.
The only bright side was again the salad bar. We understand that there are new owners for this location and they have had a lot of staff issues. These owners need to right this ship or this will be another CLOSED Charlie Brown’s location.

We started ordering at 07:00pm and finally received our food around 8:15pm (after a complaint was made). Multiple peoples’ food came out cold.
The waitress stated that they were short staffed (b/c a large party came in). The waitress barely came over.
When the check came, she blamed the kitchen. We asked to speak to the manager. The manager even took a while b/c he was busy listening to complaints from multiple other customers.
As we were leaving, the manager was getting chewed out by another customer stating that he now has to bring his son to Burger King to get the chicken nuggets they ordered an hour and a half ago.
I also overheard the teen sitting at the table next to us said that the food took two hours for him too.
We have been coming here before they renovated.
Things were a lot better then (the salad bar was a lot better & the tables were bused quickly).
Things have ready gone downhill (especially this visit, but even the past visits).

Good food and great salad bar! But young waitress couldn’t show any interests in tending to our table. No smile or connection in any way shape or form. Me and my family aren’t uptight so we kinda laugh about it but still it was noticeable.

Charlie Brown is a great place to go for good food and company. Our waitress, Sara, who works weekend’s was outgoing and very pleasant. She took our order then offered us to the salad bar, which came with our meal. The food was very enjoyable we had steak wrapped in bacon with mashed potatoes and frizzy onions. I was the designated driver so I enjoined several ginger ale’s with my meal and Sara made sure my glass was refreshed. The food was excellent but we didn’t have room for desert. Next time for sure.

Thw food was less than stellar. Thus goes for all the dishes we ordered. The wings were undercooked and could have passed for raw wings that were heated in a microwave and dipped in sauce. The steaks were probably the most “decent” of the dishes we ordered.
Service was good. No complaints.

Super disappointed tonight. Traveled over a half hour to get there only to find out they decided to close early 9pm to be exact. When I called to inquire why the doors were locked at 9pm I was rudely told it was not busy so she decided to close early and hung up on me. Why advertise that you are open till 10pm. This is not the first nor second time that this has happened. When I called back after being hung up on I proceeded to wait 5 minutes for the male bartender to find the rude woman who hung up on me during my first call. Asked to speak with the manager and was told he was not in the building. What??? Needless to say we did not eat there and not sure if I ever will go back again. I will be contacting corporate office in the morning to address this further but everyone be aware that they close early whenever they want so you might be extremely disappointed like me to travel there and find the doors locked early.

Love the salad bar. Good quality and variation of healthy and fresh salad items consistently good and plentiful. Constantly being refilled. Food is very good. Would like more seafood choices. Had the Ravioli Parmesan. It was okay but struggled to taste Italian.

We eat here often, the food and service are always great. However we ate here this evening 9/5/2018, very disappointed with the service, was as if we were inconveniencing the waitress. The gentleman that served us our food literally dropped our plates on the table and walked away without a word. We wanted refills on our drinks of soda, so after waiting 20 minutes ended up just walking over to the bar to get refills. When finished with our meal, the food was good as usual, however we were never even offered dessert or coffee. So at this point we paid the bill and left.
Not sure if there is new management or if the people working tonight were just having a bad evening.
We will dine here again, but if we receive the same poor service we will be looking for another restaurant.
