This is an old favorite of my family. The atmosphere and decor has not changed in over 30 years but that’s what makes it so charming. I came as a child and recently came back and remember it exactly how it was 25 years ago. The food was excellent. No wait. Friendly staff. Drinks were well made as well.

I have had years and years of family dinners and fond memories here, so I am so glad it was just as wonderful as I remembered. Talk about consistent! In the 20+ years I had eaten here, I’d never had a bad meal. Then to come back and visit and have it be just as good? I’m so pleased! Charco Broiler is an absolute timeless gem that I will always look forward to visiting.

The staff and facilities were wonderful and extremely cozy and welcoming.
We were greeted warmly and seated almost immediately.
My wife ordered their mule and the bacon wrapped filet. Both were wonderful and she enjoyed them quite a bit.
I ordered a local beer and the pepper marinated sirloin. Unfortunately that is where things fell flat. I was disappointed that the beer was only about a 10 ounce pour. I double checked the menu to see if what I ordered was a shorter pour because of the ABV or for some other reason but the menu made no mention that I wasn’t going to get at least a 12 ounce bottle’s worth of beer for the $7 I was charged.
Then the steak was hands down probably one of the toughest pieces of meat I’ve ever had in a restaurant. Our wonderful server described the item as being marinated in a green hatch chili marinade with peppercorns. All I could taste was the black pepper without the slightest hint of the hatch chili. All in all it was thoroughly unsatisfying.
Our dining experience was truly two wildly separate stories. Every aspect of my wife’s meal was wonderful while every aspect of mine was unacceptable.
All in all a shame.

The atmosphere of this place warrants a higher standard of food. I love the ambiance of the restaurant as a little slice of Americana from the 70s and 80s. Seeing all the different parts of the restaurant is a must and I think it’s part of why I wanted to visit.
The food was nothing to write about. My side salad had chex cereal on top, which is a bit odd when bagged croutons would have been a bit more upscale. The burger was cooked properly, but you could tell it was just a frozen patty that was cooked up on the grill. The toppings on the burger were lackluster and bacon was just microwave variety. The burger was $18, which is not worth it for the money. For that price I’d visit some of the pub establishments in Old Town to find something better or go to Sonic or Smashburger. Sorry, that’s just the truth.
Again, I think this place could be fantastic and use it’s charm to bring in more customers. However, the food quality would need to change to really knock it out of the park. No reason they can’t make their own burger patties, use REAL bacon, and up the ante on their ingredients.

I don’t know how they do it but I’ve been here many times and every time my steak is cooked to perfection plus tonight the wife had the salmon and she said it was one of the best cooked salmons she’s ever had. It did look good. My steak never needs any type of condiments or horseradish just as it’s served is amazing. I hear the hamburgers are really good too.
Steaks are a little pricey but well worth every penny.

Haven’t eaten here in a number of years. Ownership is still doing a good job balancing value with the challenges facing small businesses today, especially rising food costs and in some cases, labor shortages. My wife had the 6 ounce bacon-wrapped beef tenderloin and I had the 14 ounce New York Strip steak. We ordered both steaks medium-rare and they were cooked perfectly. Many steak houses get that wrong. We started off with salads. Extra charge. Not available as a choice for your one side. Hmmm…..My wife had a Caesar and I had the lettuce wedge. Both were served chilled. Ingredients were crunchy and fresh. Very satisfying. For our one side, we each had the baked potato. Be warned – if you order it “loaded” (butter, chives, sour cream and cheddar) there’s a $2 up-charge. I couldn’t find that disclosed on the menu. Maybe I missed it? For dessert we shared a (huge) slice of their famous coconut cream pie. Very rich and we couldn’t finish the entire serving. Lastly, that 5% kitchen staff surcharge. Annoying, but if you are into reading the fine print on the menu down low in one corner, it’s disclosed. I get it. As I said earlier, restaurants are struggling with cost and labor issues. All in all, the Charco Broiler is still relevant, still provides value, and deserves your patronage. Photos attached.

Very interesting place for dinner. Our waitress Tonya was great! The food was good, it took us back home. We did need to add salt and pepper otherwise the food was good. The prices were good too.

Deserving of a review because this was one of thee best steaks I’ve ever had!! I do NOT put that lightly! I got an 18 oz NY Strip steak thinking theres no way in hell I could eat the whole thing and there wasnt a speck of food left on my plate. My friend loved her steak and she said the horseradish/sour cream side offered by our lovely waitress was a game changer. The dinner rolls were not the best item, and would probably skip on those next time. However this toffee ice cream cake was insane level good. The decor may be a little on the older side, as is the general vibe of being an old timey casual steakhouse, but dont judge this place by that… the steak was delicious and I look forward to returning soon.

Terrible service if you’re sat within the bartenders section. Won’t pay attention to you unless you’re the two people sitting at her bar on a Sunday night with only 5 other tables of small groups. We waited 10 minutes to be greeted while she chatted with what I assumed were “regulars” at the bar. Switched around how well we wanted our steaks with a very simple order. Only redeeming qualities service wise was what I assumed to be the manager. She is the one who brought out our food and offered us the dessert menu. “Server” couldn’t be bothered to notice we were going to get dessert and brought us our check. We’re very disappointed as this was our makeup dinner for missing Valentine’s Day.

We enjoyed a luncheon dining experience. Server was attentive, professional and helpful. Menu was varied and portions were plentiful. We ordered filet mignon, chicken fried steak, ribeye steak & hamburger. Dessert was tasty, unique (peanut butter pie & coconut pie) and portions were great.
Overall, it was a terrific experience and our party enjoyed dining at a local business with overall high food, service & facility.
