Ordered the ribeye, house salad, Caesar salad, Mac n cheese, and cheesecake. Everything was delicious. The waitress forgot a few things in our order but they quickly brought them out afterwards. I love being able to make a reservation online.

Tastefully decorated, Char is on par to any other casual chop house style restaurant in the midwest! All in this is done in a 1970’s vintage schoolhouse!
The owner/hostess has a greeting and is authentic and “Iowa friendly.” The servers and bartender are the same. Very accommodating and helpful in making selection choices.
The house drink specials are well thought out an compliment the experience. The Martini Trio offers a choice of 5 or 6 styles. We had the Espresso, Creme Brule, and Chocolate Hazlenut on our trio.
The food offerings are wonderful. None of what we have had was below top-notch! The Tuesday Prime Rib is pure perfection. The Salmon dish on the menu is well seasoned and offers a New Orleans twist to the fish – a tasty compliment side makes a bed under the piece of fish. Also have to offer a nod to their Caprese Salad as a starter. Heirloom Tomato with fresh Basil and burrata cheese. Nice twist on a classic!
The chocolate cake and the bread pudding are pure delight. Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.

If you’re looking for a wonderful place to celebrate an anniversary, birthday, or any special occasion, this hidden gem is absolutely worth a visit. From the outside, you might not expect what awaits inside—arriving at what appears to be an old school building makes the experience even more intriguing. Once you step inside, however, you’re greeted with a beautifully designed space and an inviting atmosphere that immediately gave us a speakeasy-style vibe and added to the charm of the evening.
The food was outstanding. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the prime rib, and the lamb I ordered was exceptional. I often order lamb at upscale restaurants while traveling, and this was truly one of the best I’ve ever had.
The attention to detail with the ingredients also stood out. The sides, breads, and jams were locally sourced and had that fresh, farm-to-table quality that really elevated the meal.
And one more highlight—if you appreciate a great Old Fashioned, theirs is fantastic.
