Absolutely delicious fire grilled kabobs! We had a take out and everything we ordered was delicious. The chicken and beef kabobs were both perfectly grilled juicy and full of flavor. The shawarma delicious! We also had falafel which were very authentic crunchy and exploding with flavor. The service was super friendly and restaurant very clean. So happy we have this gem of a middle eastern Mediterranean restaurant in the area. Will definitely be back to try other items on the extensive menu, oh and least I forget the prices were very reasonable!!

From the moment we walked in, Char & Coal had such a warm and welcoming vibe. We were greeted by Ruwaida, who was incredibly attentive and kept checking in to see if we needed anything. We ordered two combo specials, and they were a feast — beautifully presented with generous portions, fresh sides, and sauces. The flavor of the meat was superb: juicy, perfectly seasoned, and grilled just right. Everything tasted authentic and full of flavor, and the service truly made the experience even better. I would definitely come back soon and highly recommend Char & Coal to anyone looking for top-notch Mediterranean food in Homer Glen!

I was extremely disappointed with how this place was. The food was not good at all. The kibeh was soggy and looked uncooked. The meat pieces were hard and super chewy. We got a shawerma bowl as well thats not pictured it had so many toppings on it which is fine but u can barely find the meat and when u did it was not appetizing. The baba ghanouj had no flavor at all.

Fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. The dishes were perfectly seasoned with bright herbs and spices, and everything tasted fresh and well-prepared. Generous portions, great balance of flavors, and authentic Mediterranean comfort in every bite. Definitely a spot worth returning to.

The service is very kind & present. I tried the falafel bowl and am very satisfied with the amount of options available to me as well as the artistry in creating the bowl, and the taste was colorful ! I love a good flavor train. Left with a smile & open to going again ❤️ Thank you

I got takeout for my two family members and me. The food was incredible. Best falafel I’ve ever had. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I’m vegetarian and there are plenty of delicious options. For 3 people it was about $51. We each got a full meal and then we got a few sides. So, very reasonable price for the amount of food we got and for the quality. I cannot wait to try this place again. I’ve only written a handful of food reviews in my life and this place impressed me so much I had to write a review!

Stumbled across a ribbon cutting post about Char & Coal on social media and had to check it out. SO glad we did. We were greeted and taken care of the moment we stepped up to the restaurant. They took time to explain menu, answer questions and make recommendations. We ordered a feast and not a single item disappointed. From the falafel and hummus to the mixed grill and Chicken Sish Tamook (sp?) and everything in between. The portions were great. The quality of the meats and the flavor was top notch. And the service was a bow on top. We will definitely be back. And I would highly recommend others check it out as well. We finally have a really great casual Mediterranean spot that rivals the best of them.

I visited Char & Coal today (8/28/25) and was overall pleased by the food and service, however a few drawbacks that made me rate 4 stars rather than 5. My experience is as follows:
Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted by the cashier/manager. The manager who took our order was very friendly and made us feel welcome.
Our order was: 1 gyro combo, 1 chicken shawarma combo, and 5 piece of kibbeh.
For this order, it took roughly 20 minutes to prepare which in my opinion was way too long. There were 2 other active orders going on, but for 2 simple sandwiches and a side I expected the order to be completed quicker.
They included a small container of pickles and olives which was a nice surprise, and was very tasty!
The gyro sandwich was extremely small, yet tasted good. The amount of meat was my biggest complaint, as it was mostly bread.
The chicken shawarma was nice and hot, which I expected due to the wait time. The amount of meat again was very minimal. The sandwich was cut into 4 pieces. The 2 end pieces had very little meat in them, and 2 middle pieces had an average amount of meat.
The wrap bread used for the chicken shawarma was hard to bite off, some of the sandwich was falling apart as I was trying to take bites. The bread tasted good, but it was rubbery in texture.
The fries were delicious and seasoned perfectly.
The kibbeh was good, but lacking. Firstly, the price was pretty high ($3 each). The ground beef inside was good, but it would fall apart as soon as you took a bite. Also, there were no nuts inside, only meat.
Overall, I think this spot has a lot of potential. It seems like ownership is involved in the operations and cares for the customer. The food is good, but the portions were small. The kibbeh is overpriced and needs an adjustment with the recipe so it doesn’t fall apart so easily.
I will be back to try the other menu items and will update my review if necessary
