In keeping with its name, which means “hello, friend” in Vietnamese, Chào Bạn is welcoming and easy-going. In the kitchen, chef Madame Hang gives traditional Vietnamese recipes a new spin with creativity and aplomb. Her nem rán cua ( crab spring rolls ) deliver balanced flavours and contrasting textures. The đặc biệt section, which includes prawns in coconut cream, or lacquered pork ribs, is a treasure trove of her creative signature dishes.

One of my favorite go to places for lunch and dinner in the West Lake area. I frequent this place almost everyday. I enjoy the area and the atmosphere. The area can be high traffic due to the hotel nearby but the area is nice and quiet compared to Old Quarter. The staff is very friendly and helpful with recommendations. I am sad that the Duck Three Way is seasonal as it was my go to dish. But I soon pivoted to the Chicken with Tamarind Sauce and the local favorite Bun bo Nam Bo & Nems. They also have a good selection of vegetarian meals. Other than that, my favorite part are the complimentary peanuts.

The food here is excellent and one of best I have had in Vietnam. The crab spring rolls were outstanding – full of meat and fresh ingredients , and the pork rib and caramel pork dishes were both very indulgent.
The food was authentic, the service was friendly, and the overall experience was great. Cannot wait to come back here next time.

Had a really nice meal here. Tried the crab spring rolls, eggplant with tofu, and sautéed mushrooms — everything was super tasty. The dishes were simple, fresh, and just really well done. The drinks were refreshing as well.
The vibe of the place is great too. Very calm and relaxing, which made it easy to just sit back and enjoy the food.
Service was also lovely. The waiters were friendly, attentive, and always smiling. Overall, a very satisfying experience. Would happily come back again.

The hype is real. Delicious, freshly prepared food and very friendly service.
Fried crab spring rolls+ the ribs were standout items for me but everything was good ( including the cocktails).
Booking is recommended. A must visit while in Hanoi.

I relied on Google a lot for my very recent Hanoi trip (only returned yesterday) and I want to give back.
First, take note that this is THE ORIGINAL restaurant, despite what the other same-name restaurant say – you can check out the Michelin Guide and VNExpress International article to confirm.
This place is located at the Westlake area, so it is a little distance (due to traffic mainly) to get there if you are in the Old Quarters area.
We are a group of 3, sat indoors and had their Hanoi spring rolls, duck 3-ways, pork ribs, bun cha and their banana cake on our first night in Hanoi.
We loved all the dishes – each of us had a different favourite. I say if you only wish to order one dish, it’d be the bun cha (you get the meat, the crab spring rolls and the traditional food side of things).
Reservations are highly recommended, it does not have many seatings.

I’m so happy I went to the Michelin Website since it led to me to the ORIGINAL and LEGITIMATE Chao Ban Restaurant. Their information and website can be found at the Michelin Website, and making a reservation was quick and easy. The staff were very responsive! Overall the food, service and ambiance were AMAZING! Also, a value for money. Our family is so happy to support an establishment that promotes respect and the truth. Definitely a must when in Hanoi! ❤️

The waiters are so friendly, warm and welcoming. If you’re unsure of what to get they will guide you, my friend and I were both very pleased with not only the food but also the whole experience. We didn’t even have a reservation and they still found room to accommodate us. Food was our go this world, definitely should try if ever in Hanoi

This meal was an absolute flavor highlight, and every dish shone in its own way! The basil roasted pork stole the show first—crisp, juicy meat, with fresh basil’s earthy aroma cutting through richness perfectly. Next, the grilled prawns were a seafood lover’s joy: lightly charred shells locked in their natural sweetness, and each bite burst with bright, ocean-fresh flavor, cooked just right—firm but never chewy. To top it off, the roasted chicken nailed classic comfort: shatteringly crisp, well-seasoned skin, and incredibly moist meat that dripped with juices. Every bite felt like a warm, satisfying treat I’ll definitely be craving again!

Fantastic place and amazing staff and most of all THE BEST PORK RIBS I HAVE EVER EATEN! Not only that I came back the 2nd day and as a solo traveller they said I need too find a seat. They gave me one of their desserts for free as a token of appreciation. Cannot fault customer service and friendliness even so even if you see this on the Michelin website take it from me. If you are in hanoi, do not miss going too this restaurant
