While visiting Bowmanville, we came across Chanterelle Bistro & Catering, a highly rated French fusion bistro, and decided to give it a try—and we’re so glad we did.
We started by sharing a salad, and the staff kindly split it into two plates for us, which was a very thoughtful touch. For mains, we ordered the Slow Roasted Lamb Shank and Beef Bourguignon, and both were excellent. The meat was incredibly tender and fall-apart soft, rich in flavor, and clearly cooked with care. We were genuinely impressed and very satisfied with our meal.
The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, making it a great place to enjoy a relaxed dinner. It’s always a pleasant surprise to find such a wonderful bistro while traveling.
Overall, Chanterelle Bistro was a fantastic find in Bowmanville, and we would absolutely return if we’re in the area again.

Reserved a table here for our 27th wedding anniversary as we wanted somewhere really nice for dinner and Chanterelle Bistro was highly recommended by others. This place more than exceeded our expectations. Upon arriving we noticed right away how elegant the dining rooms were. We were treated right away by very friendly and professional staff. We were seated and attended to right away. We ordered the Caesar Salad, Beef Bourguignon, and the Striploin Steak. The salad was perfect. Fresh crisp romaine topped with shaved parm, the dressing was amazing. My wife had the Beef Bourguignon and it was served with seasonal fresh veggies It was very very good. I had the striploin steak. It was served also with veggies and potatoes. Potatoes were cooked to perfection, veggies also were perfect. Steak was a 10/10. Probably one of the best steaks I have ever eaten. I ordered it medium rare and the kitchen cooked it exactly as it should be. Maybe one of the best peices of beef I have ever eaten! The wine menu here is by far one of the best anywhere in Durham. My wife ordered the rose’ and it was very good. I was also blown away by the beer selection. The beer menu featured great selections from Chronicle (also from Bowmanville) and Second Wedge (Uxbridge). All selections varied from darks, IPA’s, Blondes, to lights making it easy to pair with the wide range food menu. Lastly we ordered desert. We split the Banana Split. This is no Dairy Queen treat. This is a delectable fusion of flavor that must be eaten. Featured home made banana icecream, bananas topped with crème brule topping, fresh pistachios and sauces. (This place might be worth coming just for desserts in an evening) kitchen staff who created this also decorated our plate with a happy anniversary in chocolate and it was amazing, and it was a work of art.
Service wise this place is top-notch. I believe our server‘s name was Rachel and she was kind professional, and very attentive going above and beyond to make sure that our wedding anniversary dinner was memorable and perfect.
I give this place a 5 star review in all categories, the price was very reasonable for fine dining and I highly recommend this gem of a restaurant to all!

I have a ton of allergies and this chef and restaurant were so accommodating of them. I have never been anywhere that gave me so many options, this immediately became one of my favourite places. I had the Cornish hen, and my table tried the sirloin, tenderloin and lamb shank- all were phenomenal!! Cesar salad was great, crab cakes yummy but small. Loved the coconut chai ice cream, and my friends enjoyed the chocolate mousse, cheesecake, and butter tart. We will definitely be coming back.

We ordered catering for our staff and it was absolutely delicious. You can tell a lot of care goes into the food. Everything was fresh and flavourful, the portion sizes were very generous, and they were very accommodating of different dietary preferences. Every single person commented on how good the food was. Visited this evening for an early birthday dinner and had an amazing time. We’ve been here a few times now, and the food has always been excellent. The service is just as impressive — the staff are friendly, attentive, and always accommodating. Highly recommend and will definitely be back again!

My husband and I dined at Chanterelle Bistro for his birthday and absolutely enjoyed each dish we ordered (we shared the lobster risotto as an appetizer as opposed to an entree). The food is delicious and we recommend dining at this establishment.
The only issue we had was that our server did not inform us that refills on pop were not bottomless (as it is at many restaurants), so we had ordered a couple refills each and were charged for each drink individually. It was only AFTER she presented us with our bill that we saw the charges and enquired and she stated that she was sorry and that she should have informed us that each drink is from an individual can and that we would be charged for each drink. She did not proceed to rectify the matter as we were not previously made aware of this and we were still charged for each drink.

Chanterelle has been on my go-to list since I moved to the area. I regret that I haven’t come sooner!!! The food was spectacular, we got the private table by the front window- a lovely intimate dining experience. I was worried it might be cold with the door opening, but it was not!
Although the restaurant is fine dining & the food quality & ingredients follow suit the prices were not unreasonable! I was expecting the menu prices to be outrageous-like most fine dining is but they were not.
We tried a few apps and mains and shared them! Service was attentive but not interruptive and the owner even came by to say hello…such a nice treat!

Six adults, dinner, Sunday Nov 30th to celebrate my 63rd birthday. I requested a quiet area and was provided a great table with no other patrons nearby. The menu has many options for all pallets. The timing between appetizers and main course was perfect keeping the relaxed environment we were looking for. We didn’t require dessert, however as a birthday gesture I was provided a dressed up plate with homemade banana ice cream! Absolutely delicious. We will all be going back to Chanderelle’s
