My partner and I had heard a lot about this restaurant, so we decided to try it for dinner with some friends. The ambience was really nice and the overall vibe of the place was great.

We started with sweet lassi and mango lassi, which were both quite good. For dinner we ordered chili chicken, samosa chaat, dal, and butter chicken with naan and roti. While the quantity of the food was generous, the flavor and overall quality didn’t quite meet our expectations. The lassi was definitely a highlight, but unfortunately the roti and naan didn’t seem freshly made.

One of the best parts of the experience was the pani puri stall, which gave a nice authentic Indian street-food feel.

Overall, it seems like an Indian restaurant, but the target audience may not necessarily be Indians—you can see that reflected in some of the reviews as well. That said, it’s still a good place to visit for starters, drinks, and a fun atmosphere.

The butter chicken was pretty good. I went with a friend who had a vegan dish, and we shared the samosas to start the whole meal was great. The food is super flavorful and has a nice kick to it, but it’s not so spicy that it’s overpowering. It feels like a perfect spot for someone who is just starting to try Indian food since everything is so well-balanced. The rice was cooked just right, the service was solid, and the place was actually clean and kept up well. If you’re looking for a good meal that hits the spot without being too much, this is a great pick.

We had such a great experience at Chai Pani. The food was absolutely delicious — every dish we tried was packed with flavor and tasted fresh. I really appreciated that there were plenty of options without it feeling overwhelming. It was the perfect balance of variety and quality, and everything on my plate was genuinely delightful. It’s the kind of place where you go back up “just to try one more thing” and somehow your plate is full again.

It was very busy when we went, so be prepared for a wait. Parking was also a little tricky and took some patience. That said, once we were seated and started eating, it was completely worth it. The flavors, the selection, and the overall experience made up for the wait. If you don’t mind a crowd and a bit of a parking hunt, this spot is definitely worth checking out!

This is a great Indian restaurant local to the Decatur area. It has a little bit of cramped parking but has ample parking nearby if you’re willing to walk a few feet. But the full parking lot should be a testament to how good the food is here!

When you walk in you are hit with vibrant colors similar to those you would see in Indian festivals, buses, auto rickshaws. There’s Indian music playing, and spices from Spicewalla and well designed shirts that immediately catch your eye. Once paying your buffet price, the fun truly begins!

As a Desi , I take pride in being a food lover as well as offering my opinions as a food reviewer. I am especially proud to be reviewing a restaurant as a 5 star.

I also would like to use my review to rebut a claim I saw in a review I saw prior to my visit by Purav under mine.

This is a proper Indian restaurant local, and their food does indeed have great flavor. The restaurants you have suggested also have flavor , but in more of a burn your tongue and cause GI issues in the digestion process way.
The flavor provided by Chai Pani is a perfect first flavor for those that are new to Indian food, or prefer a more mild option. There’s no need to shun others from coming here because you deem it bland

The buffet offers the same items each weekend, so the chefs become masters at their craft and provide a quality that I can count on in my numerous visits here.

Also, the chai that’s included is great, and I suggest that those who dine here should try some as well.

In short, great buffet, great non-veg, great veg, and great chai (to defend their Namesake haha)

Will be coming back many times

Lily was an amazing server, hands down. It was our first time visiting this establishment and my brother’s birthday. Lily made sure our 1st experience was top tier. We wanted a first experience together yet something very different Chai Pani was it. From the cocktail to the food, our taste buds were violated with extreme delight! Because we went full throttle with our experience I will post the pictures of our table’s excursions…

BUFFET: As an Indian, this was honestly one of the most DISAPPOINTING Indian buffet experiences I’ve had. I went to Chai Pani in Decatur after seeing all the good reviews and expected much better. The food was bland, lacked real flavor, and barely had any good items on the buffet – not a single item was good. For the price, it was not worth it.

To my fellow Desis, this is not the place if you’re craving proper Indian buffet food. And for anyone else looking to try Indian authentic buffet, this does not represent it well. You’re much better off going to Desi Tadka at Patel Plaza or any other buffet.

Cost of buffet: 45 $ inc of tax for 2 People.

Came for the lunch buffet right when it opened and had high hopes for this place! The service was friendly and the ambiance is very fun and festive and the food looked legit. However, I wasn’t wow’ed by it. It might’ve just been that day, but the curries weren’t all that flavorful or spiced, which is usually what I’m looking forward to with Indian food.

The butter chicken is on the sweeter side, which was interesting, but the aloo tikka chaat was pretty good! The hot chai for that day was watery unfortunately. Maybe coming early in day is not the right move, so I’m willing to try it again!

Lunch buffet prices (Oct 2025) for weekdays is $17 and for weekends is $21. There’s some parking in the back, so when it’s not busy it’s okay.

Chai Pani is a Decatur staple and for good reason. Amazing options ranging from Indian street food to more indulgent dishes like butter chicken or saag.

The SPDP is a must. We always start out with an order and oftentimes pair that with the Gobi Pepper Fry or the Samosa Chaat.

Recently tried the Vada Pav which was spicy and delicious. Also tried the KFC sliders which are a new favorite.

Great spot to try Uttapam, their naan is solid, and their bowls like butter chicken are consistently tasty. Chicken Kathi Roll might be my favorite though.

Gotta try their cocktails here as well, especially any with some spice!

While not as large and diverse in options as similar buffets in Gwinnett county or further into Decatur, Chai Pani offers a competent, comforting, flavorful lunch spread. For folks with a Southern US palate, the food is spiced well with a moderate level of heat. The selections on my visit include classic Desi foods: Butter Chicken, Saag Paneer, Daal (lentil stew), battered and fried vegetables, Galub Jamun, breads and rice. There are also a couple selections of savory street foods: a puffed rice with aromatics and herbs and a fried potato cake with sweet and savory toppings. Everything is delicious, hot, and plentiful.

Water and chai are offered for free. Other drinks are available at the bar. The local crowd is a good mix of the American melting pot; truly this is a place everyone can find something to enjoy. The music ran the gambit of soulful love songs to upbeat Indian pop and rock. It was loud enough to be present, but not so much to interfere in conversation. I ate on the patio as the day was quite pleasant; there were plentiful heaters to warm patrons on a colder day, though adding a few chilis to your plate may be more than helpful for those occasions.

Overall, definitely a spot I plan to visit again. I no longer live anywhere with access to Indian food and Chai Pani fills that hole in my soul. For about $20 (including a tip), it’s a bargain these days. I also recommend a short walk to Dancing Goats Coffee. The parking is free for 2 hours. It requires registration through a website via QR code, but no app or requirement to create yet another account.
