This review is really for the food. Service is ok, atmosphere is meh. Skip down for the food part…

This food review is really only about their biscuits and gravy (with a side of crispy bacon), since i don’t remember trying anything else. I’ve gone for it several times but the last time was good enough that i had to add them to google maps just so i could leave this review. It’s the best b&g in The Dalles, as i’m certain bc i’ve eaten at literally every (sit down) restaurant here, and looked for good b&g on several additional attempts.

The key to a good biscuits and gravy is actually the biscuit. The gravy is pretty simple. This time, the biscuit had that perfect toasted in butter on a skillet texture, giving a little crunch and not falling apart or getting mushy over time. The gravy could be better with a little more pepper and more sausage, but it does the job it needs to do.

I always get an extra bit of bacon unless i know the gravy is loaded with sausage and on this trip the bacon was perfect, flat and crisp like you’d want for a BLT. The fat was crisp instead of mushy and the meat part wasn’t overcooked. Brilliant!

4 stars instead of 5 bc i haven’t tried their other food and previous visits weren’t as good. There are a few other places in town that might have the quality but their prices are obscene for such a simple dish, while here it’s very reasonable. Drive up the hill. It’s open to the public, Bldg 1, 2nd floor.
