Eclectic restaurant serving small plates & cocktails in a rustic, brick-walled setting.

Absolutely phenomenal! Such a great place for an elegant dinner. The food was super good and because the plates are small, you get to try a lot of different things. The squash curry is something you should definitely try! Soo good. The service is literally some of the best I’ve ever received. I have an allergy and felt like I was taken seriously. Our server frequently came over to make sure/ask what I could eat and not eat to make sure I didn’t have a reaction. I also appreciate the allergy menu! Both bar and table seating. Overall, a must try if you’re in Portland looking for a nice, light (but filling) dinner.

We made reservations for a Monday evening for my husband’s birthday. We were sat immediately even being about 10minutes early, which was nice as the restaurant was definitely busy. The vibes were great, and we loved our server and drinks! Unfortunately, where things fell short was the food. We got 6 dishes, we loved the corn bread special and zucchini cake dessert. But, our other plates fell short on taste. Everything was overly salted and didn’t seem to highlight the main ingredients of the dish. And the crab salad was drowning in what only tasted like only mayo. The other dishes we got were as follows. Bone marrow toast, suckleing pig, summer squash/duck dish, and crab salad.

MUST try the apple salad. one of my favorite bites in recent memory: new to the menu, apples three ways – poached, pickled, raw – with walnut pesto, crispy cheddar, a few bitter leaves – perfect balance of sweetness, acidity, bitterness and perfect textural contrasts. Phenomenal. Best cocktails: Unleash the Lion and the Gibson Girl

Visiting Portland for a couple days and popped into Central Provisions on a random Monday night. The vibe was great and the service was attentive and warm.
We got the gnocchi, kimchi, smoked carrots, lamb shank, and foie gras mousse. The best were the gnocchi and the carrots.
The gnocchi was the star of the show and probably one of the best things I’ve ever had. The gnocchi was a great texture and so cheesy which paired great with the rich buttery mushrooms.
The flavors of the lamb shank with the coconut rice base was exciting but the coconut overpowered the lamb flavor.
The mousse was the only real disappointment. The favor combinations didn’t quite work for me. I didn’t quite get enough of the rich buttery foie gras flavor and the apricots and hazelnuts overpowered it a bit too. The grilled bread was definitely the highlight of this dish.
Overall I had a great experience and would love to come back to try more of their menu options!

I mean, if you’re reading this…trust me, just go. Blown away by the food, and the friendly attentive service, cozy atmosphere and tasty cocktails are all bonuses. Went for brunch and got the tuna crudo, duck confit hashbrown and foie gras torchon (omggggggg). Reasonably priced too. Can not wait to go back for dinner menu.

The service was fast and friendly, even on a busy night. Despite the bustle, our needs were expertly taken care of. We popped in for drinks and dessert, and the toffee carrot cake was absolute perfection…seriously, order one for you and your spouse or be prepared to fight over it. The ‘Death Becomes Her’ cocktail actually paired great with the cake. Sitting upstairs by the kitchen window added to the experience, giving us a glimpse into their precision, teamwork and overall passion about food. Trust me, they know what they’re doing. This place is phenomenal. Highly recommend!

We were ‘influenced’ to come to Central Provisions as a place to try lots of small plates. We were not disappointed.
Starting off with some delicious cocktails we had then to make the hard decision on plates .. so many things that I wanted to try but only two stomachs!!
Although I wanted the Tuna Crudo but I was overruled because someone doesn’t like raw fish
Anyway we had
The chopped salad, the local cheese, the suckling pig, smoked carrots (wow), the kielbasa and fries.
Our desserts were the sticky toffee carrot cake and the jam roly poly..
Must orders are the chopped salad (we had read it was), the carrots (I wanted to order more), the fries (potatoes are great in Maine if you didn’t know ) and the suckling pig. And you must get the carrot cake. We wanted to lick the bowl.
We loved it and we’d be back for other dishes the next time we’re in Portland.

Been wanting to hit Central Provisions for several years now, but finally made it happen for brunch a couple days ago.
We were in Portland for a mid-week adventure, which i believe allowed us to walk in at 11am and immediately get seated.
I had a punch of the day, which was delicious and then opted for maine root mexican cola that my wife and i split.
For food we started with the fries. Thin shoestring style with ketchup and a great garlic aioli. Next up was the sprouts. We are big fans of sprouts and these rank up high. Rich and flavorful with sharp gorgonzola and truffle butter. Roasted pear offers a nice sweet note to break up the richness. And finally, the moment we had been waiting for….the bone marrow toast. Rich, deep flavor of marrow and fontina cheese tops perfectly toasted bread with bits of red onion jam to balance it all out. This is perfect to split!
Overall our experience was phenomenal from the service to the food and everything in between. We will definitely return to try more of the menu. Awesome spot!

We decided to try Central Provisions for lunch, and let me tell you—this place gets PACKED! Even though you can make a reservation, don’t get your hopes up about being seated right at your reservation time. We were asked to wait downstairs at the bar, then two minutes later moved upstairs to the bar. Not a huge deal, but definitely something to keep in mind.
The open kitchen is always a nice touch—it adds a cool energy to the space. As for the food, it was good, but I was expecting a bit more given all the hype. Everything tasted fresh, but nothing wowed me or stood out as particularly special. The real mystery for me was the chopsticks—we were given them, but none of the other tables around us got any. I’m still not sure if that was part of the vibe or just an odd oversight.

So happy this was my last stop while in Portland. The menu is very unique, in the best way possible! Everything we ordered was phenomenal. Our bartender was super friendly and everything he suggested was delicious. As you can see we couldn’t wait to dig into the key lime pie. If you like trying new things and want something different from your classic lobster roll this is your place.
