Food was okay wasnt the best flavors, Presentation was decent as was portion size but atmosphere left a lot to be desired. Exterior looked like it had been closed (condemned) interior suspended ceiling and vents were dark, stained, dirty and appeared to be covered in dust or mold. server was nice but generally not impressed to say the least.

Ok so going between 2 and 3 stars. The server was really good. She did a good job. Understood gluten free. The gentleman came to our table to shake and and pour our Margaritas.
However:
The photos makes everything look better than they were.
The food just was not there. Did not taste good, was luke warn. Wasn’t anything that tasted right to me except their salsa. My husband did think his chili’s relano was ok. Sizes of portions were pretty good not too large. I ate just a third of mine. Gave him part. I got enchiladas, beef with red sauce. Normally I love refried beans and these were super bland. The whole dinner was just not good. The atmosphere severely lacking. The place needs a lot of help. Remodeling. Part of the floor peeling up. Outside looks pretty bad too. Not sure how clean it is. But inside and out in very rough shape. The drinks had a weird salty taste to them. No salt on rim but didn’t like them either. Then while we were eating had to listen to the man that poured our drinks very loudly blow his nose a few times. That was kind of gross. Won’t be back.

First visit. Off night, maybe?
Best thing about this experience was the salsa. My guest enjoyed the margarita. They were selling tons of them. We ordered enchiladas and empanadas (soggy under the salad). The taste of the chicken and the beef was unusual in a bad way. Below average food. I threw up in the parking lot.
Second visit: ordered enchiladas and empanadas again. Disappointed again. Ordered a cheese empanada but was given chicken (take out). The pastry tasted more like masa. The green sauce on the enchiladas was sweet . I tried to like this place.

As I just read… “Salsa Tastes Like Tomato Sauce”! And I was thinking, this is not going to be Good after tasting the Salsa. When my waiter came back to get my order I asked “Do have some Hot Sauce”? He said “Sure” and brings out three bottles. I gave the Salsa a Squirt of Pineapple habanero. O-Yea, we got something now. (I totally agree, they need to add some HEAT to the Salsa. If you don’t want the HEAT, Gravys is down the road.) I was undecided what to order and a guy comes in for a Take-Out “I had Chicken Taco’s to-go”. OK, Chicken Taco’s it is. Honestly, they were maybe the Best I’ve had. Let’s see how #2 Visit Goes.

Great local place for fabulous Mexican food! Very clean and there’s dishes not found in other Mexican restaurants! . Update on 9/21/2023, the food is still fabulous! The Bridge across the Calabash River is closed as it gets rebuilt so I hope it doesn’t affect this wonderful restaurant!!!

I have been searching for a Mexican restaurant for a while. I’ve found it, Central Mamma’s Mexican Restaurant and Taqueria in Sunset Beach. Absolutely delicious. The salsa was excellent & they brought us a second basket of complimentary chips without us asking, that never happens. My husband got the steak quesadilla and it was wonderful. I got the shredded chicken Grande Burrito and it was delicious and big enough for 2 people. Delicious food & very reasonable prices.

We intentionally try different Mexican restaurants, this will now be our top restaurant. The building has had a multitude of tenants and had a bad reputation, but this central mamas is legit and deserves praise. All of our food was great. Recommend the sausage and queso appetizer. My empanadas (pictured) were excellent

We had a large party of 11, no problem seating us, The service was excellent!
The food was great. Salsa top notch
And the children’s chicken tenders were real crispy chicken with crisp fries.

Nothing to write home about this place. Food was bland. I’ve had plenty tres leches cake and this one didn’t hit the spot. Hard to describe but it’s nothing like what I’ve had in the past. The service was good though, the guy was nice.
