We stopped here with a tour bus and the team did a great job. They served 36 of us quickly and efficiently, with less than an hours notice. Servings were generous. Meat flavors were good. I would recommend you order “sauce on the side,” so you can try all of their sauce flavors on your own.
We had a pulled chicken nachos plate which had an awesome cheese sauce and a generous portion of shredded cheese on top. Also had a smoked turkey plate, which was a huge mound of turkey with sauce on top. The greens as a side were delicious!
Also, try the fresh fried to order pork skins. Those are also avaliable to go.
Staff was super friendly and helpful, fast and happy! They have several rooms so we were able to sit as a group. And they have plenty of parking for the bus out back.
Two of our friends had the ribs and they were great. Several had very large stuffed potatoes that they could not finish. Quality and quantity was great!

Without a doubt, best smoked sausage I’ve ever had! Mac & cheese, pork rinds, and pulled pork sandwich w/ cole slaw were all on point too 🙂

I stopped at Central BBQ -Summer on a cross country trip on a Tuesday night. I tried the brisket with onion rings and their beans. I liked the atmosphere which had some sort of sing-a-long going on in one room but plenty of seating in quieter sections. The food was reasonably priced and was ok. Although the brisket was a little dry there was 5 sauces to choose from and were tasty.

The meat was good, and the sauces were great.
Unfortunately, the whole place smelled a bit gross: musty, mildew/moldy, and stuffy. No AC (at least it wasn’t turned on when we went during the middle of a hot summer day.) We got water from the fountain and it smelled and tasted like mold. The dining area seemed like it needed cleaning. If I had to, I’d get the meat from here again for takeout, but I wouldn’t dine in again. My husband and I were seriously disappointed with our experience especially after seeing so many good reviews. Is this just the general Memphis experience?

I placed a catering order for 145 people to celebrate my promotion ceremony in August 2025. Brittany was the Catering Specialist I worked with and she was awesome throughout the entire planning process. On the day of my promotion, the catering crew arrived early to set up at the event venue and were ready to serve the food on time to my guests. I ordered the Basic Pork & Chicken Package with Pulled Pork & Chicken, Baked Beans, Coleslaw, Sauce, Buns, Plates, Forks, Napkins, Serving Utensils. I also later added Turnip Greens, Tea, and Ice to my order. Everything turned out great and I had guests from all over the country in town. I received a lot of compliments on the quality and taste of the food. After the event, the catering crew promptly cleaned up, took out the trash, and left the event venue in great condition. Based on my experience, I would definitely recommend Central BBQ for your catering needs. I will be using Central BBQ for my future catering needs.

The Mac and cheese, brisket, and Carmel cake were delicious. The greens tasted canned. But the service of the staff was excellent. Nothing spectacular when I wanted authentic Memphis BBQ. Loved how their wings were served with carrots though.

We are visiting Memphis for the 1st time and it was recommended we visit. Big restaurant, lots of parking and seating. You can either take it to go when you come in or sit for service. Our waitress Nene was great. She gave us honest feedback on the items, was quick and set up the sauces, cutlery, napkins etc perfectly without asking.
The ambiance was fun with themed pictures, sports paraphernalia and had an old family style. The chicken was smoked to perfection, not dry and you can get it sauced or just with the dry rub. The salads were great and the sides were the perfect amount with a lot of flavor

Such a disappointment. I had brisket potato and family had brisket plate and pork sandwich. Meat had absolutely zero flavor and was lukewarm. Zero smoke flavor and their motto is smoke is the he sauce….It is hard for me to believe they are still in business with food like this. Some of the worst bbq that I have ever had.
Also, there is old dirty carpet throughout the restaurant, had a great old mildew smell.

We were passing through but love barbecue so we thought we’d give it a whirl. My daughter got the portobello sandwich and she loved it. I got the pulled pork and it was very good. Not fatty or drowning in bbq sauce. The hub got ribs. The ribs were very good. I’m kinda persnickity about my greens and they were good here.

I was in town for work (First time in Memphis) and this restaurant’s BBQ was recommended by a coworker.
The restaurant was dated, dirty, and smelled of mold. The cashier and another employee were arguing as I waited for my food.
When my food came out, it was lukewarm and nothing special to rave about . I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and a side of Mac and cheese.
