Social Profile:

The Cavalryman Steakhouse is located on the grounds of historic Fort Sanders, established in July of 1866. In its heyday, the Fort Sanders Military Reservation protected the Overland and Lodgepole Creek emigrant routes, the Denver-Salt Lake City stage route, and the construction crews for the Union Pacific Railroad. Ruins of the fort’s powder keg are visible just southwest of the restaurant’s main building. The Cavalryman building was constructed in 1925 to serve as the clubhouse for the local country club. Just to the east, remnants of the nine-hole golf course can still be found.

If the business wants to stay open then I recommend the Owner step up. Read your reviews and improve! I’ve read the same theme through the reviews. Hostess was late attending to our party and was NOT friendly. She greeted us but no smile as didn’t feel welcome. Then sat us near the bathroom (lots of seating in the restaurant) The waitress was much more friendly and inviting. The appetizers mushroom and bison meatballs were good. The main course was flavorless, food was bland. Bison Ribeye don’t recommend didn’t finish so I too 1/2 home for the dogs. I almost forgot the mushroom topping I counted no more than 4

I’m not one to leave reviews but if it helps someone else so be it. I used to really enjoy this place, been over 10 years since I had been there. The place is run down. Service was very poor. Lettuce was warm. Glasses stunk like old dish water. Steaks tasted like the grill hadn’t been cleaned in years. The place needs a serious overhaul or shut down. Strongly advise to go somewhere else before get stuck with a big bill and a poor experience. Really hope something changes.

Traveling all the way from Houston. Needed a place to get a good steak. We were well taken care of. The appetizers were delicious as well as the main course.

We recently attended a dog show in Laramie. 7 of us decided to dine here. It had been many years for most since we had eaten there. For me, 40 years. The food was awful. The onion soup was bad, the apple salad was full of onions, the chicken fried steak meal, garlic gravy and garlic potatoes were terrible. So in speaking to everyone in our group of 7, all with different meals, they said their meal was bad. All of us (7)stated we would never go back or recommend anyone to dine there. Service was mediocre and waitress did not come around for drink refills even once. On top of that they had a mandatory tip of 15% and asked for a tip for the kitchen staff. Part of our group said we always tip 20%, but after the mandatory amount and request for kitchen tip, they only got 15%. Businesses need to monitor policy’s and staff. Sad experience!

We went to celebrate our 25th anniversary and it was phenomenal! The staff was friendly and welcoming and the food was amazing from appetizers to desserts! Their wine list is exceptional. Our steaks were cooked to perfection. The soda bread and sides were perfect compliments to our entrees. Loved the casual atmosphere and are looking forward to visiting again!

The overall service was good but could have improved. I understand that wines can be complicated but basic knowledge about different wines would have been appreciated. Also, the server was struggling how to open a bottle of wine and proper serving procedures. I don’t blame her bout the training she received was poor. I ordered the 8oz prime rib and it tasted like a rib eye. It was over cooked and was ver disappointed. I most likely will not return when I visit again.

The most outstanding prime rib dinner in recorded memory! Fried artichoke hearts with asparagus and twice baked potato.

When we lived in Laramie years ago, the Calvaryman was amazing. On a recent visit, we were so excited to go back. AWFUL. Grungy, peeling paint atmosphere. The food was really bad. They discounted 1 meal by 25% and comped an appetizer. $150.00 for food we did not enjoy.
