Though places like Crown of India and Simply Bilash are okay, they didn’t quite hit the market so we tried here.
For similar pricing to Crown of India we found a well done interior, friendly and attentive staff and good portion sizes.
We ordered Onion Bhaji, Vegetable Samosas, and Chicken Chat to start, followed by lamb rogan josh and mango chicken, accompanied by Garlic Na’an, Paratha, and mushroom rice.
The starters were very good, Bhajis (x3) were crisp on the outside and soft, tasty in the middle. The chat was tasty and a good portion, whilst the Vegetable samosas (x2) were just spicy enough to give you a small kick, nice texture and filling. The mint dips were more yoghurt, a little sweetness, I personally really enjoyed them.
The mains were very good, too. Decent portion sizes again, a fair amount of meat in both. I personally found the mushroom in the pilau rice a little salty and the paratha, though good, seemed to have a very slight chemical taste (perhaps something to do with the oil burning off?). My dining companion really enjoyed the garlic na’an though. Good texture and flavour, plenty of garlic without being sickly and not too crispy (the na’an and the paratha maintained a little of that lovely doughy texture that allows it to mop up the sauces).
The drinks selection was broad, as was the main menu, but there is only Cobra available on draught (my companion loves this, so all good for us, but selection for draught is limited).
Overall, it feels like 4 is a little stingy but its not a 5. In the absence of a 4.5 option, we’re giving a 4.
The staff were friendly and attentive, checking on us and making sure we had all we wanted.
We started with some poppadoms which were ok. The sauces that came with were quite average. The mint sauce needed a bit more flavour and the onions were sweet and sharpe.
We shared the delux mixed starter for two. (There were four of us so we had two portions of this). It had a lamb kebab which was cooked well and fresh with mint. A chicken ball and a chicken taco. Both were cooked ok and in a rich sauce.
I then had the chicken malayan, which was basically a korma with a pineapple ring cooked in it. The chicken fell apart and was cooked well but the sauce was very bland wit not much flavour at all. It was also very think and more like a hard yoghurt then a sauce. I then had a garlic naan which was a little doughy in the centre and didnt seem fully cooked. The outer edges were nice and rich with garlic.
We ordered chips for the table, which were told were plain but when we asked they added massala seasoning to them.
One friend had a mixed grill that he said was ok. I cant remeber what the other two dishes were.
On the whole it was not as good as I expected from the other reviews and it be a tuesday night with a less experienced chef on.
I have been to many indians and there are others I do prefer.
The food and drinks all came to 150 odd quid, which for four people isnt to bad. Wouldnt say the food was worth the money though.
We visited in a group of 5 all ordered different foods and were very pleased with quality , presentation and flavours.
Will definitely return
Just need to know their wines off the menu that are available & add a few more by the glass to try then they have a very good place with fresh food in stone Staffs
Food arrived hot and was very tasty.
King prawn dansak, chicken sagwalla, brinjal bajee, plain rice, garlic naan, popadums all lovely. Compliments to the chef and staff, really enjoyed our meal. thank you
We attempted to eat here and walked out!
I booked a reservation for 8pm. We did have to wait for a table that is not an issue if they’re busy.
We ended up standing in the entrance for 20minutes. No waiting area.
Then got wrongly shown to a store cuboard.
So the people behind waiting ended up sitting before us.
We finally got a table up stairs.
Asked for a bottle of wine. And nothing.
Nothing came. We did not get services. At this point we had been in this restaurant 1 hour hungry and waiting to be served.
We walked out and went across the road to a new restaurant heaven.
Instantly greated with pleasant staff and their food was outstanding.
